Updating iPad game without updating graphics to retina

So if I understand correctly a few months ago Apple made it a requirement that when updating a iPad app it must now support retina graphics. Well I have about 600 graphics in my game that are not retina display and don't plan to update all the graphics yet but I would like to update my game. Is there a way to do this?

    Does anyone know if I can change the camera settings to make it work. I read somewhere on the forums a while back that someone updated there app without updating the graphics and it got approved but I can't seem to find that post.
