Keyboard Input with Kindle

Hi, Has anyone else had any issues with Keyboard input functionality and the Kindle? Once a keyboard input is entered, I'm told there is no way to record the typed text, like the "done" button you usually see.

If this is a known problem, outside of a creating a custom keyboard, is there a way around this?

A bit more info, apparently the Done button is at the bottom of the white entry box as opposed to the top right with the header, so it gets covered by the keyboard.
