Bumping this - it still seems like emoticons do not work, anyone getting it to work?
Any news on this topic @ForumNinja ?

This is likely because of custom font work. You'll need to include a font that supports emoticons. I think we use one of the system fonts for the UI, so those should display, but in-game you'll need to add your own font.

This is a great find..
I'm tempted to go back and remake all my games only using unicode symbols.. just to see the improvement in loading times..
(...oh and ... hi)...
That would be such a cool experiment. And welcome "back", btw.

Using emoticons with display text seems not to work on 1.25.61 - just nothing....
Yeah, not working on 1.25.54 either, must have been effected by the work on custom fonts ?
Guess it time for a bug report on this then, or do you read this @ForumNinja ?
@johnnymagne Do you know if there is any news on getting this fixed?
Have not heard or seen any response on this issue. Anyone else?
That's a shame...

Ok, so we just have to install a font with unicode support.
Should have thought that...
