Candy crush type of game

Hey,

I work with a non-profit organization and we are trying to make a candy crush type of game for the iPhone. If anyone has a template we can work off of or has any tips for us please let us know!

Hello. The best help I can give you at this time is to say that this isn't the way to get help here. You need to start by familiarizing yourself with GameSalad both in what it can do and how it can do it. You're not only asking for way too much with such a vague request, but you're making it harder on yourself as well. Dive in and learn a bit by messing around and reading the cookbook and other forum posts. Only then can you ask more specific questions AND be able to understand the answers that you'll get from this great community.

    Good luck!

DeepBlueApps has a Candy Crush template here: http://www.deepblueapps.com/?s=candy+crush&x=0&y=0

But as far as that, I haven't seen a lot of templates like Candy Crush.

DeepBlueApps.com has a template but it's only available as part of a larger purchase of their DBA Resource Centre PRO: http://www.deepblueapps.com/gs-candy-match. If you need just that template, you'll still need to pay for the annual subscription to the resource center. It's currently 40% off so it's a good time to consider it since it contains much more than just that template. (I don't have any connection to that site, by the way.)

GSHelper.com has a $1 template that is also related to your question: http://gshelper.com/shop/free-templates-and-tutorials/bejeweled-styled-logic.

As was alluded to, buying a template as a way of familiarizing yourself with GameSalad is an uphill battle. Templates are a great resource for people who know GameSalad pretty well but can't figure out that "next step."

Candy crush type games use sophisticated table manipulation so a lot depends on your comfort with programming structures and logic.

Another option would be to pay someone to make the entire game for you. As a teacher, my preference is always to see people learn how to use this tool (and it's an amazing one once you have a handle on it) but that's always a choice.

@Braydon_SFX, I thought so! I searched for Bejeweled and didn't find it. Thanks.

There's a free one if you follow the link in my signature. It's not complete so you may want to buy one of the ones listed above.

It requires a copy of the nightly builds before it'll open

@tatiang, yeah, good point. But I am impressed with his Candy Crush template. Really good.

@KevinCross, hi, do you have a Candy Crush / Bejewelled template for the Mac version of GameSalad?
    Thanks
  • KevinCrossKevinCross London, UKMember Posts: 1,894
Yes but it only works in the nightly builds because it uses behaviours not yet available in the standard public release 10.4.1 like the loop behaviour. It's also missing power ups, but it's free

Thanks @ictc, I can't really take credit for it though as it's just a Wordpress template. I've not been able to get it to look as good as the showcase site for the template unfortunately.

I disagree with the not a good deal part, the art in our Candy Crush is worth the full asking price of the Resource Centre Pro alone imo, just ask any artist for a quote (theres a lot of work in this one) and even if you want to reskin all you have to do is hand the images folder over to an artist and get them to make it the same size rename as is and import it back.

You also get over £1700 worth of art, music, tools, templates, full games along with everything we make over the next 12 months for only £149 with promo code SantasBigSack so a real bargain (this year we have sold approx 2.5 Pros a day so far).

    Darren,

I have a lot of respect for you and I certainly wasn't suggesting that the resource center isn't a good price or isn't an amazing collection of tools and templates.

I just imagine that for a non-profit that might be budget conscious it could be a stretch to pay that much for one template. But you make good points!

I'll re-word my post but you can leave the quoted text if you like so this thread makes sense.

I meant the templates on the website....unfortunately they are not in a project file for Mac....they are extracted....how can I turn those into a single...GS for Mac or non nightly build file? Are there a large number of extras in the nightly build to use us released build guys might use? I may download it I want that break block template bad. :-)

@ictc if they have an extension gsdailyproj then they were made in a nightly build (yeah don't ask why they called the extension daily). You can open them in the normal version by renaming the extension gameproj but if they use any of the new features they won't work properly or at all.

You could download and save them for when version 11 of GameSalad is released as that should have the new features.

As for the block breaker template I don't think that uses any of the new behaviours so might open in version 10.4.1 if you change the extension. Let me know if not and I'll see if I can convert it for you.

EDIT: I renamed the extension to gameproj and the block breaker template opened and ran fine in 10.4.1 so you don't need the nightly builds for it.

I don't know what to suggest if you've definitely changed the extension name correctly, it works fine for me. Maybe download a nightly build seeing as you have a pro account. You can have both versions installed on a Mac

Here's a version that opens in 10.4.1. I've changed the extension name for you
