A Gamesalad eBook?

So, what would everybody think of creating a eBook together? A Gamesalad textbook of sorts. We could have different members create different chapters on how to different things and such. Personally, I think it would be, not only a practical idea, but also a fun idea. What does everyone think of this idea? I heard mention of a book a while ago, but I don't know what happened to it, so, I thought, why not try and do a book by the community, for the community. What do you think?

Hi! I recently gave up on my GameSalad book project. Here's why...

    1) How many people really need it? The GameSalad community doesn't seem that large.
    2) There's so much information already available.
    3) It's hard work. I think it's more fun to make games.
    4) I haven't had that much success with GameSalad.

...and as far as an eBook... why not just update the wiki?

...and then there's probably the best reason of all... GameSalad is not that hard.

    +1 for the wiki.
It's the most logical place to look for the info.
I am seeing a few video tutorials come through the forums now which would be nice if grouped all together from all the different authors. (This may already be done, I just haven't spotted it yet)

@Photics, I see where your coming from..... I couldn't possibly agree more.... But, well I'm sure many people agree with me.... I really get sick of seeing the same comments over and over again, how do I do this, how do I do that.... I feel like if we had this, when people ask for help, See GameSalad ebook, See GameSalad ebook, See GameSalad ebook... That way we could cut all the crap out of the forums that doesn't need to be there. I feel like it would really help out the forums a great deal.

Even better I think it should be an app on the app store.

Sign me up for the project:)

Unless GS Creator is going to be in beta for another year or 2, it doesn't seem like a worthwhile effort. Functions could change or features added at any time (hell, Apple may even decide to reject GS games from the store because they're not directly built using ObjectiveC). Seems a little early to do a book.

On the other hand, we could all benefit from better access to help posted in the forums (only 5 working search results? seriously?), and indexing of the wiki and all other online resources.

I was thinking on making the GameSalad: Textbook available as a free app on the app store, with iAds as a way to generate revenue. Yet, I haven't figured out a nice way to do that. It would be ideal if it could be done in GameSalad, but it's not really designed for books. Maybe I could use PNGs as pages, but that's terribly inefficient.

So after trying to figure out the way to make the project profitable, I just decided to kill it.

There's a wiki and that's where people should be directed. I don't think that fragmentation is really in the best interest of the GameSalad community.

I don't know how Gendai Games feels about it, but I think an app is a great idea. Why wouldn't you clean up all of your videos... organize them... drop in iAds... and distribute it as an app?

Also, your videos are yet another reason for me not to bother with an ebook.

Chapter 1: How to do stuff with GameSalad
    Search for "tshirtbooth" in YouTube.
    End Chapter 1.

I think that if we can get a ebook written, then i could probaly convert it over to an iphone app later on. As for this eBook, it would be written in the ePub format. Then, people would be able to load it up in iBooks through iTunes, just not through the iBook store. The store is only available to big publishers at the moment

Also, I think a eBook could be a fun little project to work on. It would give me something to do

I'd be very interested in an eBook that would explain the basics of various famous games - sort of a skeleton of the logic so you could concentrate on the art.

If that is what you want to do, I am in.

Here's chapter one. tell me what you guys think:

    Chapter 1

    Welcome To Gamesalad

Hello. I would like to welcome to the world of Gamesalad Game Creation.

    What is Gamesalad?

Gamesalad is one of the most advanced Game Creation programs for non-programmers. It enables the average joe to create the game of his/her dreams.

    Who is Gamesalad for?

Gamesalad is for the non-programmer, or even the programmer who would like to spend more time on the art and level design, and less time on struggling with their codes.

So? What will this book teach you?

This book will teach you how to use the Gamesalad program, and create some pretty cool looking games.

Well, thats enough with the introduction. Lets get to work!
