delete images from project but project doesn't seem to get smaller as size of images deleted

Imported large images into a project, then deleted them and imported new images. It seems the project is not reducing to the size of the deleted images. It seems that there is unused space in the project? Could this be? How can we reclaim unused space?

Try deleting them from your project file. Right click it and choose "Show Package Contents" then go to the Images folder and delete it then reimport it.
