If you are looking for a good hobby level 3D art and animation program, DAZ Studio is free and comes with many great freebies, including the Genesis and Genesis 2 models plus some starters for the characters.
While they sell thousands of 3D models in their online store, some cheap others pricey but still low by industry standards, there are many of free resource sites online I've listed in previous posts, such as sharecg.com, renderosity.com's freebie section and several others. Most content creators permit their models to be used in 2D commercial projects, but you should check the readme files.
And nope, I do not work for Daz3D and not affiliated with them in any way. But they make great software for those looking to venture into the world of 3D art and animation, and best of all they dropped the several hundred dollar asking price of the software to concentrate on selling content instead.
