Yeah you don't need any behaviors other than when they split to do what you want. I would make each part of the worm a different actor so you can sort their collisions so each one know when they get broken from the one ahead of them in the link and then turn on the behaviors.
@Lost_Oasis_Games I've have thought this over and I don't think that will work. The Caterpillar needs to turn in such a way that the body parts follow the head exactly and with the rope like behaviour what would happen is that when the head is going down and left (for example) and part of the body would still be on the line above, the parts on the line above would be dragged left as well and would not hit the mushroom.
I have an new set up now that lets each part monitor what the magnitude is between itself and the part in front and then slows down or speeds up temporarily when needed.
So far it looks good.
Allright, a little update. Performance on OSX is good. On iPad it has still a gap problem.
So I will publish it as a Mac game. I just tested it on an old MacBook and it runs awesome.
The powerups are working now. It's turning out into a great game. I will change the graphics later into a Dragondance theme. I believe I published these before but here is a render of the characters I did a while ago.
This video shows the game from yesterday and an overlay of a version before I improved the performance. The difference is hardly noticeable but performance is better and the behaviour of the snake is more predictable. The short Caterpillar is the old one. At the end you can see it splits completely.
@tatiang The game will be available in a reasonable timespan. I hope @BazookaTime The game is grid based so a rebuild to portrait should not be hard.
It is not working well on mobile devices. On OSX and windows it works flawless.
@Socks Thanks! I do have to balance the sound a bit. Some effects are too loud some too soft.

A little update. At Christmas time my wife will not let me develop so...
I made some nice tunes for the game with Garage band on my iPad. I'll post some samples soon.
I hope you all had a great Christmas time!

I finished it and put it up on GSHelper. here is the link to the announcement: http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/93422/trillipede-arcade-shooter-template
I didn't want to publish it myself in the end because I'm changing business plans as stated in another thread.
