Amazon App Failure

I created a Kindle app and submitted it on Amazon. It cleared testing on all Kindle devices and they published the app but sent me the message below.

Non-Amazon Android - An error message occurs "This game is only playable on Amazon Kindle".

What puzzles me is that they still published the app. Does this mean that non Kindle users are still able to download the app or is the app hidden from anyone unless they are a Kindle user?

It would suck if 100 Samsung users downloaded the app just to have it not work for them.

Should I have built the app as Android instead of Kindle?

I see now that I need the device to work on all Android and Kindle devices in order to qualify for Amazon's Developer Select. If I build the app as an Android and submit it to them, will this cover all devices, Kindle included?
    Thanks.

Well, I created the APK using Android publishing and sent it to them. Hopefully this will allow it to work on Kindle as well as all Androids.

did it work? that's what i was thinking about doing, theoretically it should work right.

@ultima Yes. Submitting it as an Android app made it work on all kindles as well as Android.

From what I have noticed if you publish your Android app using the Kindle option it will only work on Kindle devices as it says Kindle same as iPad if you choose iPad the app will only work for iPad. If you want your app to work on all Android devices then you publish it using the Android option which covers all Android devices ... ;-)

So why do we have a kindle only option in the publisher, if Amazon are just going to tell us to fix it anyway. I thought Gamesalad and Amazon had spoken to each other.

I've just spent a few days re-publishing my apps to the kindle spec. Now it seems I need to re-do it over again in the android spec.

@codewizard can you please explain what we need to here to make sure Amazon and it's customers are happy.

We have a Kindle-only option because of our agreement with Amazon... so we can make a distinction for free Kindle publishing vs. Android. It's not ideal and I'll add it to my Trello board to follow up on this.

I assume republishing with Android is working for you?

Well I haven't republished yet, but if you're saying it's a course of action, then that's what I'll do.

@Doguz From what I see you are pro so it is better so publish to Android to cover all devices. If you publish to Kindle your app will only be available for kindle. There are two App Stores on Amazon one for Kindle and one for Android devices if your app is only for Kindle it will only be available on the Kindle app store for customers who own a Kindle ... This is my two cents. Hope this helps.
