If he's had "enough" why wait 22 hours? I've seen this attention before... On the side of a bridge... If he pulling it, it'll be a legal reason for sure. Hope not, it's great to see an indie make it.
He is obviously being preassured by Nintendo for ripping the art and sound from Mario....and I'm sure his responce is what his lawyers are advising him to say. Come on, if this guy is making $50k a day, then a lawsuit is the only thing that is taking this game off the market. Nintendo isn't going to sit back and watch a thief earn cash off their assets.
I say right here right now, we open up GSCommunity LLC, ask him for the game, re-release it as a company and split the earning every month to fund our future gaming dreams.
He is obviously being preassured by Nintendo for ripping the art and sound from Mario....
I doubt Nintendo would need to pressurise anyone, if there were grounds for a legal challenge they'd simply issue a cease and desist order . . . . there could be numerous (non-legal related) reasons why he'd want to back out of the whole crazy Flappy Bird circus, he's just some guy who got lucky, and now he's in national newspapers, being interviewed by everyone, front page of the Guardian in the UK, TV channels from Brazil, gaming websites from Spain, Icelandic magazines, calls from US TV chat shows, news programs from Thailand and Vietnam and radio shows from Korea and Japan . . . etc etc . . . and being accused of making the worst game ever by respected games reviewers, accusations of plagiarism and being talked about on every gaming, developing and coding forum as well as thousands of twitter feeds and Facebook pages . . . his phone probably never stops ringing, his girlfriend of X years is now demanding they get married now that he has $XXXXX, his broke cousin in-law wants $10,000 to start his business / have a kidney transplant . . . . and a million other things that might come with a sudden and unexpected wealth and rise to international notoriety.
If success came like this to a Rovio or EA game their PR department would handle all the press interest and interviews and calls and emails (etc etc), but this is just one guy working from home, some people love that kind of attention and thrive in these situations, others would find the pressure very stressful, intrusive, claustrophobic, scary and even anxiety inducing, who knows maybe he's going through a rough patch, a week of not much sleep, a million things to deal with, no PR to bat away the hundreds of calls and emails, doubtlessly some hate mail, some crap with his family / girlfriend / brother / mother ("you said you'd leave when you make some money, you've made a whole bunch of money, so get your crap and move out" - "but Apple doesn't pay until the end of the month" ) . . . or his dad has been in hospital for 6 months and he doesn't need all this sudden unexpected stress . . etc etc etc.
I personally hate flappy bird, and don't think it deserves to be that popular, but that's besides the point, I don't think it should be taken off the app store at all. I heard that a lot of people just think his game is stupid and pointless, but it's no reason to take it down, that means they win. As much as the game pisses me off, I praise the developer for making it a very addictive and hard to put down game. I think he should keep it on the store. Although I personally think that the sprites need a complete redesign as it looks too much like mario, I can tell they definitely weren't ripped. But they look way too much like Mario.
Having trouble with your game? Sounds like a personal problem.
To be honest, I have no idea why he's shutting it down, all an indie developer dreams about is having millions of people downloading & and playing your game, and making a lot of money at the same time! His game is a hugh success! :-O
I think its something connected to nintendo & law suites for him to shut down biggest gaming trend that currently exists! :-t
Fame is for suckers. Everyone thinks having a hit game is easy. Be careful what you wish for. Having a hit game comes with lots of responsibility. The demands can be overwhelming to those who aren't prepared for it. Heck 80% of the people who hit a big lottery jackpot end up broke or with a tragic story. As someone who comes from money I can tell you first had how it can ruin a family.
I read on reddit he's from Vietnam is making 22 years salary every day. That must have a pretty dramatic affect on a person's life. And quite possibly their safety.

You're 100% right! People think having a hit game is easy. It's very demanding and requires lots of responsibility and changes. One you have a hit game now you need, PR people, Lawyers, money people. Remember these things called taxes et... I come from money and I can tell you first hand what it takes to manage it and what it does to your life and family. Not pretty stories.
Some choice comments people here might bear in mind:
Man. What is up with this thread? Can there be no empathy for a human? Money does not solve all problems, it can create more, especially when you don't expect it. Geesh guys.
There might be a possibility that he fears for his life. He may have people close to him trying to extort money from him. Becoming rich in a poor country can be a dangerous thing, especially if you didn't start that way.
I feel very bad for the guy. For all I could imagine, his Flappy Bird was just a hobbyist project, something to do beside of the tedious work time. Suddenly it got success, he would feel excitement. Thousands of people following him on Twitter, press call him for interviews, money pouring in. It was great. Too excited with this sudden exposure, he slipped his mouth for the $50k/day income.
Then people start calling him names everywhere. Not just from Vietnam but from the whole fucking globe. How he didn't deserve that fucking money. How other great indie games did not share the same success as him. How his product was just a rip-off. How he supposedly cheat the system with bots. Rumors about companies preparing paperwork to sue his ass off.
The Internet is fucking mean over him. We all forgot that this is an indie project from a guy where the game dev industry is almost non-existent. There is no competitive factor here. There is no game design 101 classes here. This game was designed with no dream of taking over the world in mind, nothing ambitious here to criticize. Did it cost anything to download it, play it, delete it or ignore it?
The moment he disclosed his income, that is the coffin for Flappy Bird.
Whole lot of jealousy and spite on this forum atm
At the end of the day there's no evidence he used a hack (unlike the red ball guy), and no evidence he stole assets (just made very similar ones). He just made a game that appealed to a wide variety of people and got lucky getting that initial push via YouTube.
If the poor guy want to be left alone, he should be left alone...
@tatiang that is a high quality problem which we all would like to experience one day ...;-)
Good luck with that..lol be careful what you wish for.
I don't get your comments this is what we are dreaming of. If this was me I would be on Good Morning America with Flappy Bird shirt, shoes, and promoting the release of Flappy Bird 2.
I always love hearing how hard rich people have it, makes me sad glad I'm poor. (
Having money doesn't make one anymore or any less human. Having money has it's own unique troubles. It makes one a target for envy, jealousy et... It needs to be managed or can be easily lost. Puts high demands on ones character as human nature can lead people down the road of pride and greed, nasty attributes. My a Father was a self made man and his quest for money destroyed my family. I know first hand all to well how it leads to destructive behavior. I myself walked away from all of it and forfeited my inheritance for the same reasons as the flappy bird guy. I perfered to live a quiet life and raise my children far from that world. Best decision I ever made. People who say I'd like to have those troubles have no idea what I can be like until you've lived it. I myself admire his courage to walk away from it and applaud him for his priorities. Having lived it myself, I totally understand and empathize with him. Don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
I don't think people realise how life-changing it is to go from broke to sitting on hundreds of thousands of dollars, particularly when you live in a country where the average yearly salary is a couple of hundred dollars. You think just ignoring internet hate is all he will have to worry about?

GAMESALAD DEV FOR HIRE! - www.gingagaming.com
I mean his name and accomplishments are already out there. I understand the whole wanting privacy and stuff.
But there has to be more to it then that.
Why would you take it down and people 'over using it' , that's kinda suspect. Hope he is well
All in say flappy happy.
(much sarcasm)
