Earning an Achievement More than Once?

Whats the purpose of this? I thought an achievement was supposed to be earned only once. Is there any benefit for letting players do this?

Yes I would like also to know exactly what this means?

I think it is for challenges. You can challenge a friend via Game Center to an achievement you have already earned? Or have the notification pop up on repeated achievements?

I find this kinda confusing. I recently watched the video about Tweet Sheet and Achievements. They stated that if the achievements are set to earn more than once, the update achievement success dialogue wouldn't appear a second time...but it does in fact appear every time that achievement is earned.
