Background & Layers?

Hi everyone.

I'm using a background that has hills, bushes, clouds and sky. I would like some of my actors to appear from behind the bushes or trees and clouds. I assume I would have to cut out these elements and then place them on their own layer. But i read somewhere that if I do, even though the individual pic ( tree, cloud ) is not part of the original 1024 x 768 or 2048 x 1536 for retina, they each will still register as a 1024 x 768 pic. This I don't understand at all, but if it's true this would meen a very large game file. I hope this is not true.

Anyway, does anyone know the best practice I should use?

Thanks

- Daniel

You can make background elements any size you want. They don't have to be 1024x768 and they won't "register" as that size unless you make them that size. And yes, you would need to move actors to other layers to create the look you're wanting.
