Are old and new versions of GameSalad compatible?

Hi all! Sorry if this question has been asked before... but I'm wondering if files made on older versions of GS are compatible with newer versions and vice versa? Or whether specific versions are compatible with each other but not others? Eg. If one was to open a file from an older version on the new version, would it be read only? Could it be edited? Will it not work at all?

I ask because I am going to show GS to my art class, and get the students to make something in it over a few weeks, but I know that that will be working on their GS project both in class and at home. At home, they will no doubt have the most up to date version as they are yet to download it. Our computers at the university, however, have a slightly older version and I do not have authorisation to update it.

Cheers!

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but here's how I understand it:

The newest version of the stable build (currently 10.4.1) will open older versions. Mac Creator will open Windows Creator builds if .gameproj is added as the filename extension. Windows Creator will open Mac Creator files but you have to follow the video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9-X7XkRmL8.

Nightly builds (currently 0.0.244) will open earlier nightly build files and stable build files. Nightly build files cannot be opened in the stable build or the release candidate.

Release candidate versions (currently 11.0.1) will open stable build files [my assumption... haven't actually tested this yet] but not nightly build files.

All versions are available at http://gamesalad.com/download/releases.

I would recommend that you either have everyone (yourself included) use the release candidate or that everyone use the newest stable build. I feel confident as a teacher using the release candidate even though it's brand new and possibly buggy but if you're new to teaching GameSalad, stick to the stable build.
