    Absolutely. The $299 is nothing.

I'd wait till your first game is near completion.

    Lol sir deep pockets..

It's a great learning tool for sure.

I'm curious percentage of people actually make their money back and then some profit.

It's a flooded market, very difficult to stand out.

But as others said, if you buy.. Do it near the end of development to get the most time out of it

I went pro believeing I had to if I wanted to publish to Apple Store...Doh!

I then learn that you get a few perks by doing so...Game Center is one I liked. Choosing my own Splash Screen and then dont forget the whole pro forums thing...for me personally....its worth $299 just to have access to the pro forums alone. Guys like @FryingBaconStudios‌ @tatiang‌ @DeepBlueApps‌ and others making themselves available to help when needed is a great resource.

If you're willing to make quality games, spend time doing marketing, you'll make your money back easy. Quality games speak for themselves.

If you are able to afford it, I say show your commitment.

And even if the money hurts a little, it may actually push you to get a game out. :)

As QS said, I would wait until your game is pretty much done.

How many of you pro members get back the initial investment of 99+299 dollars from your app?

I'm an awful businessman, so while I make back the investment, it's never on my mind. It's just $400 that's been spent!

I judge its worth by the fact that it lets me have my own custom splash screen (I value my identity) and that I can add Game Center to my games for my players (I value features my players like).

Absolutely worth that, even if I didn't make back the money :D

I never think twice about renewing my pro account especially now with all the new features and the nightly. I like having access and experimenting with the new stuff.

Yes... : It's great for fast prototyping and publishing to multiple devices.
No... : It's kind a buggy and has lot of outdated docs. Response time (mail, forum, etc... is really crap, slowwwwww)

    Happy considering....

So in other realistic terms, probably less then 5% make their money back lol.

It's great to learn from, but I wouldn't be quitting your day job just yet.

Who knows, the next flappy birds may come from gamesalad.. You never know and is what keeps a lot of people going.

Wow, brave question to ask in this climate.

My answer is a million times yes.

If you're a mac user then you should really consider it if not already. I'm a windows user and feel a bit limited on ads bur what I failed to do before investing is read, read, read.
I've spent hours just reviewing the forums and it's worth it. You see how long certain issues that may concern you and how long they have been around.
I think as the team grows and people continue testing, things should get better. But get a few projects ready, adhoc tested, play your own game again and see if that's what the users want nowadays. Most games are fads or something brand new and hot.
example...zombie movies equal zombie games, resident evil, last of us, left behind. Fads that are profitable.
Example2, something new and randomly hot, flappy bird..etc.
so look at your compilation and see if you could say to yourself I and they would buy or free download that right now!
my concern will be met one day, till then I still would have bought my license.
    Rock on

You are better off using free version and publishing some fun stuff to see if you have great response from players. If you make something awesome, then you'll know if it's worth your time. Also, yes, good idea to wait until you have something near completed before jumping into a pro license.

We went Pro after we had 4 games ready for deployment. Total investment at that point was $~135 for Pro (through Studica) and $99 for the iOS Developer certificate.

We managed to earn back the $99 in maybe 3-4 months, mostly through Paid downloads of our local apps.
The $135 spent on Pro took a while longer. I think we made breakeven at 7-8 months, when we first implemented iAPs.

Well, that's our experience 2+ years back. At the end of the day it really depends on the quality of your app and the amount of exposure it gets. Perhaps our apps were just crappy at that point which was why it took so long to actually start profiting.

Now we have accumulated a bazillion small apps and a couple fairly-sized apps in both stores, and let me tell you: we're no longer worrying about Pro subscriptions and certificate costs :) because as long as you put an app up, it will always be there and will keep earning for you as long as people find it.

On a side note, I decided to get myself my own personal Pro subscription  ...and I haven't made enough to cover its cost.

I've recently gone PRO and the features are more than worth it, especially publishing on Android/Amazon appstore(not just for Kindle).

2 of my games have already paid back the cost of pro in just one month thanks to the flappy bird outbreak! :)

As mentioned above, if you are a student, use Studica to get a huge discount. http://www.studica.com/
