★★★ DBA : Free Template [Red Bit Escape] ★★★

Myself and Darren thought we'd see if we could re-create the basic mechanics of the Red Bit Escape app using GameSalad... To spice things up a bit we set ourselves a 2 hour MAX development time. Darren got the GameSalad version done in [1 hour 5 mins].

Anyways.. The basic gameplay is:

  • Avoid the Blue Squares, and avoid the blue lines.
  • Stay alive as long as possible.

You can download for free over at deepblueapps.com

GameSalad Version Gameplay.

Both templates are very basic - but might help some users to create a new - full game.

Cheers Wayne

Awesome thanks for the work. I've seen this one before, way before Red Bit Escape even. I remember this with a game called Save Kitty way back in 2010 I think.

Thanks guys we had fun making it and Wayne did amazing with his corona version in 2 hours!

I was actually working on Mr Bomber when I got the Skype from Wayne but couldn't resist a little competition GS vs Corona.

    Yeah....

Bit crazy how if you mention another SDK your original post will be edited @tenrdrmer ???

    Darren.

You guys know why it was edited. I sent you a message about it and it was a group decision by the moderators. Surely you wouldn't want to turn this thread into a gripe session about the moderators and thus causing it to be closed for going way off topic so why not stay on topic here and avoid that?

    Cheers

Which group was this the normal 2?

I think it's BS how you can't even mention another SDK in a forum, yes a forum ffs look up forum in the dictionary.

How are we promoting Corona by saying it takes at least twice as long to make the same game? you missed the point completely and brought down the hammer without thinking editing Waynes post (very badly I might add).

Couple of the mods on here need overhauling, too power hungry and wanting god like status is not good for the community.

Threatening to close the thread? Wow you get worse by the day!!! We make a free template for the community and you don't want them to have it, clap clap.

I have wrote a letter to the GS staff voicing my concerns so for now enough said but with people like tenrdrmer around it certainly puts us off posting free templates...idiot.

    Darren.

Jesus that actually sounded like a threat. Seeing a moderator post something like this actually puts me off the forum.

I agree with Darren 100% it is getting pretty bad around here. I read it as a highly positive post on how quickly a quality game can be made in GameSalad.

I can promise you there is no malaise intended, and there were more than just two of us on the initial discussion which included this and a few other template threads.

The problem is this. We have been asked to watch over the forums and have been given rules to abide by. These rules have not been updated or addressed in over a year. We've asked the GS staff to help us do our jobs better, but they are busy with creator stuff and don't have time to also moderate the forums. There's been a big hole since SSS left, and we are doing our best. We don't get paid for this, it's 100% volunteer.

These are the advertising rules we have to go on. As you can see, this thread, and honestly 99% of others, skirt the line. Some knowingly, others unknowingly. We try to give the benefit of the doubt, but we also get daily emails asking why their thread was closed while others live on. For this particular thread, it's fine according to rule 1, but breaks rule 3. The discussion of corona may or may not break 7 & 8. It's a discussion about corona which is ok, but it's a template for corona which is not. This is why we have been working with the GS staff to expand upon what is allowed/not allowed, and provide other means of advertising for some of the larger/older members who have helped out the community a lot. Until that time comes, please bear with us while we navigate the waters of moderation. We do our best, we make mistakes.

However, If you have a problem with a single mod's actions, opening a thread is NOT the correct course of action. You should send a DM to that particular mod and a few others. State your case and why you feel it was closed incorrectly.

    Advertising:

    1. If you're offering free items, by all means do so - there is absolutely no restriction to sharing a free template, artwork, sounds, etc. This is at your discretion!

    2. Requesting ideas for artwork and sound packs that appeal to the community, to be created and sold on the main Marketplace. This one is an important change to note. Previously no advertising was allowed on the forum, including idea gathering. The assumption based on this was that a user could use this as a way to circumvent the Marketplace and the forum rules to sell via email or private messaging. Obviously this one was a bit more oversight than was necessary - we encourage you to offer your items for sale on the marketplace so they reach a broader audience - and posts presented in a manner where it's clear you're looking for ideas are completely safe. (However, please refrain from including your email in these posts or discussing prices.)

    3. Advertising your website where you sell your personal templates - this rule returns to its previous stance - no advertisements of personal websites outside of the "Third Party Links" thread or an unobtrusive link in your signature. (no images, please)

    4. Announcing a new template you created for sale - (amended) After gauging community feedback on this point, announcing templates for sale is no longer allowed. Free templates can still be announced, as in the first point. Note that announcing your latest game/app does not fall under this rule.

    5. Announcing your new game/application - rules regarding this remain the same. Please refrain from posting prices - a simple "Available now on the appstore" is sufficient.

    6. Advertising third party software (specifically tools not related to GameSalad functionality, or competitor software), or websites not specifically related to GameSalad are not allowed. We appreciate that you wish to share some of these programs with the community, but the GameSalad forum is not an appropriate venue.

    7. Advertising games/applications not made with GameSalad - We understand that GameSalad may not be the only tool our developers use in the marketplace, but if you don't even use GameSalad to develop, please don't post these items on the forum to advertise.

    8. Advertising a competitor - this is strictly not allowed. Discussion regarding a competitor is fine, but do not include links or pricing.

    9. Advertising game promotional services - this is strictly not allowed. More often than not services of these type have proven to be dubious at best and of limited use to the community - legitimate promotional services can be found elsewhere.

    10. Discussing costs, competitor pricing, purchase prices or rates - this is strictly not allowed. Discuss any of these terms via private message or email exchange.

We need to bring back the third party sticky which no longer exisits. GS long ago totally botched the marketplace. It should be a real store with each provider having their own page. Right now it's a big mess with no rhyme or reason and no support. Either do it right or just eliminate the damn thing and licence third parties to handle it.

@FryingBaconStudios‌ agreed, the marketplace is a mess and very annoying to look for templates/submit them (sorry gamesalad but its true)

and it would be great if we had that third party sticky thingy thing thing thang that Bacon is talking about

It is always a sad thing when the use of moderators becomes more confusing than helpful. It's clear that Wayne and Darren were in no way advertising or promoting Corona, they were having a bit of fun and competing to see who could perform a set task in a predetermined time. Wayne and Darren appear to be totally committed to the industry and give so much stuff away for free and go beyond the expected in support given to their customers. Having now seen the rules clearly laid out, I think that the best way forward would have been that the Moderators involved simply put on bigger glasses and see that no rule breaking was intended. As for many other places that use moderators, editing a persons text is not allowed, the contributor is asked to change and or remove the post, it is never right to edit someone else's post as it gives too much room for totally twisting the original meaning.

I would not want to be a moderator, it must sometimes be a very difficult task, but at the same time moderators must try hard to stay level headed and sometimes make decisions that are borderline, based on a trust given to those they know are not out to deliberately break the rules.

Wayne and Darren keep doing your stuff!

Moderators, thank you and I hope your job can be made a little more simple.

Game Salad, tell me how to get rich quicker!!

It's also important to remember that not everybody knows everything that is going on, so it's best to not comment on the situation, and instead, keep this thread on track with the topic.

@SlickZero & @jonmulcahy We need some new moderators if this is how a post is handled, edited, chopped and violated because we can't mention the C word….crazy beyond belief.

Rule 1, Rule 5, Rule 7…..don't any of you have any (few swear words) common sense?

    Darren.
