So, I want to make sound effects for my games, I Know I could purchase some but I don't think that they'd be right. plus I'm broke anyways 
does anyone know of some good, free software for mac?
any tips?

i like to use google chrome for mac, its very nice, its great software
or you could try steam, that also works on mac

not sure what your exactly looking for but for simple sound effects try this it's free and online nothing to download . http://www.bfxr.net
Perhaps you should try audiojungle for sound effects there (most are only $1). Have a listen to my portfolio
you can also use garageband (if you have a mac) or freesound.org.

you have a mac right? garageband is great.
there is also this free software called sfxgenerator or something. Don't remember exactly.
you could also try downloading free sounds. If you make a lot of games then I suggest you buy a big pack that has huge list of sounds of all types.
sounddogs sell a lot of sounds but they are kinda expensive.
try megasoundeffects, they sell something like 9000+ sounds for very cheap. you should get what you need with it.
not free but the best for audio manipulations and simple sound design for games. If you make a lot of simple games - Ableton Live.
I'd also suggest you these great game audio sample packs. In that case it doesn't take a long time for implementation. I sometimes buy them from these guys.
