GS A.I specific behaviors for enemies?

HI I would like to create a zelda like game, however I have no idea in how to "program" an actor to do specific things, like move around randomly in a specific area and follow the player if he approaches (withouth hitting a wall), you know... like finding it;s way to the player ..
