Universal Build template

ReLReL Member Posts: 2

Hello everyone,
my name is Ariel and i'm a total newcomer in gs. (dont want to lie :) ).
i've read some guides and watched few tutorials. Created 2-3 games.

My next step was to develop a game for iOS.I purchased my Dev-License, went to upload my game and BOOM! i realized my game is not UniversalBuild :(

since than, i tried following several tutorials and threads but all ended up with bugs and problems.

Which tutorial/youtube/guide do you recommend the most?
I dont mind developing the game from scratch to meet IPAD-PORTRAIT mode or whatever...

Thank you!!
Ariel (*)

    Hi Ariel,

There's a few options 1st the easy one download the release candidate below and use stretch to fit.

    http://gamesalad.com/download/releases

If you don't like stretch we have a free template called "santa go" over on DBA that will show you how to check for the device size and change actor positions using crop (things like score will need to be moved down on some devices for e.g.).

In addition, I've made a boat load of free demos that supply numbers to plug in that will make your project work on any iOS device. Because each game is a little different, you maybe have to rearrange your actors just a little, but our universal binaries template should do the trick.

Good luck finding any template that works...i have yet to find a template that will work specifically with the cross platform templates thumbstick...thats all I need. Not once has it worked with any method on youtube, the cookbook, tshirtbooths or "universal build" template I try to merge.

I gave up on UB until this fantastic nightly/release candidate comes out. I will try again when it does. Us "noobs" cant figure it out and even with "help" from many o the veterans on the GS forums we still see thread after thread after thread about this issue and its so far down the GS roadmap I dont expect them to be fixing it anytime soon...

Asking someone to create a working base template has always been like asking to give someone $200 to put a thumbstick in a UB template...Im amazed there is not one in the Marketplace and even more suprised not one GS template paid or free doesnt have this basic function. It is the single greatest disappointment I have in GS....please guys dint bash me for being disappointed...its just my opinion Im going to keep using GS I still love it otherwise.

Personally if I could create an absolute working template....knowing how many users have this issue...I would build it and put it in the marketplace and actually support it.

I do really hope you figure it out.

when i use "stretch to fit" should i start my project as IPAD PORTRAIT ?
Will it keep a reasonable ratio for iphone-legacy and iphone-5 ?

And what about "Resolution Independence" in stretch-to-fit mode?

Awesome! I have used several UB methods but only yours helped me!

I have the same question as ReL... when using stretch to fit, whats the best setting to start with? IPAD I would assume? Or is it just a matter of taste? I have an iPhone build that stretches okay on an iPad.. but I would think building for iPad would probably have a better look, provided items around the edge (like scores, buttons, joy sticks, etc) don't get cut off.

    Thanks!

I always start with iPad and plan for cropping by dynamically coding the on screen elements to adjust based on the screen resolution.
