You can make a lot of money selling heroin too but it doesn't make it right or ethical.

As a game developer you should have some sort of creative respect for the others also creating work. if you are improving upon a game or twisting the concept to your own then you are just taking inspiration from a game. but when you clone a game you show no creativity of your own and no respect for the original creator.

In a sense we are an art form. show some creativity. just because you can publish a game and make money from it doesn't make you a developer or designer. You have to put something of your own into it before you can take those titles. until then you are just a copier.

Not saying YOU specifically as i have no idea what games you have done.

Very true, if you think of all the platformers from the last 20 years, all the good ones have their own theme and gameplay mechanics which make them different and people want to play them. I would like to see some twists on the Threes formula but i won't be downloading any more unless they do something different.

Ive only made one game so far Tappy Toad for ios, its a flappy clone but the gameplay is different to the normal flappy bird and i feel i gave the character personality and the graphic are all my own. plus i added local 2 player,

My next game is a platformer :)

Also im not sure 2048 or threes could be done on GS, i read a developer blog and they apparently were using GS but moved to a different platform after finding it hard to produce it on the current build at the time. maybe now though as candy crush games are doable!

    Well said my friend.

Creating very direct clones really doesn't give you a sense of completion. Adding in your own creativity, mixing it up and adding personality is what feels good, it really makes all the difference. Even if the game doesn't do well, knowing that you created your own type of game is a reward in itself.

Not to say that building a popular game in order to further your skill with the engine is bad. I do that all of the time, but I never release those games. I take it as a challenge, learn and move on.

That's a very good point. Using this route to learn is great. But that's just where it should stop if you want to be taken seriously as a developer.

There are many applications that can use a 2048 style technology. The hardest issue here is combining tiles but if your animations are smooth it should work.
