iPhone 6 Rumours...

...yes rumours, I realise they are just that right now.

But there is some interesting information on the potential screen sizes on Macrumors - macrumors.com/roundup/iphone-6/

Probably the one biggest frustration for all of us is universal builds, looks like it's about to get even more tricky...

I would like to know if @CodeMonkey @CodeWizard or any of the other GS team have any ideas on making universal builds easier for everyone?

Yea I was looking at some rumors earlier too. I have a feeling most of these will end up being true.

Hopefully the size changes are similar, like how it is with the iPad and iPad mini so we won't have to have to worry about screen sizes for 2 more resolutions... -_-...

Since we have stretch now I think it is a good idea to use that option for universal builds instead of manipulating camera settings. I know I will test this and use it provided the game looks good on all iDevices.

@neoman Cool, looks like they have tried to address the problem already. I'll give the stretch option a go in my adhocs.

@Loaded it is not bullet proof as the results are not always great on all devices. Some times you have to manipulate camera settings for specific projects but most of the time it looks good. It will also save a lot of work updating an app every time Apple releases a new device ...

Cheers for the heads up

"When Apple transitioned to a Retina display in 2010 with the iPhone 4, older non-optimized graphics were enlarged at 100%, causing quite a bit of pixellation. While developers will want to update their apps quickly for the new resolution that will be introduced with the iPhone 6, unoptimized graphics will look considerably better this time around than they did in 2010 during the move to 2x scaling, leading to a relatively painless transition for consumers."

    Good, good...

Anyway, didn't Steve Jobs say, like 3 years ago, that 300dpi was greater than the eye can see, so WHY GO 420+?! It's useless.

Stretch has become my friend. Several times I have railed on cropping and its just my inability to use the proper code to make it work. I now use the stretch option when publishing and it works great for me. The GS roadmap does have UB in the future but I dont know when it will ever be worked on. Now that they have a stretch option I suspect thats as far as it will go as that is a pretty good work around.

1704x960 same ratio as iP5 1136x640 but not double so not sure how that would actually effect the look of the graphics.

So long as they don't add more aspect ratios it won't affect us too much.

What really worries me is that the file size for iPhone games is going to end up huge. When playing on the non-retina you'll be downloading iPhone 6 res graphics that you just don't need, and it'll still be an issue with iPhone 4/5, though to a lesser extent.

Of course it's going to be a new aspect ratio. They can't call it new and be better if they don't screw with us just a little. :)

Stretch has and now more than ever will probably be the way to go.
