I'm New Here... Is This Worthwhile?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a great, easy-to-learn app-builder to start using, and I'd really prefer it to be free. I see that GS allows me to publish on iOS and Mac for free, but am I able to charge for each download? If not, what's an app-builder that allows me to do this, and are there any free ones that allow me to make in-game purchasable items?

Thanks!

Once you make an app it is yours to do what you choose. You can charge for it or distribute it free. Dont forget, a $99/yr a year Apple Developer or Mac Developer account is required to distribute it on those platforms (required by apple)

Is there a fee required to put apps up for Android?

You need to be a pro member with Gamesalad and it costs a fee of $25.

I mean with any app-building program, do I need an Android dev license or whatever?

To publish to android, Google requires that you purchase their developer program. It is $25 for android. To publish with gamesalad to android, it requires the pro membership aswell.

You know if you are looking for a free ride you could at least put in the work to research everything thats out there. I'm not sure GameSalad went into business for the purpose of telling people they can get a better deal with another company.

On a more serious note. you gotta spend money to make money. GameSalad offers way more than what is generous for free. if you want more your gonna have to support them by buying a pro license and contributing to the cause.

If you are just surfing looking for the cheapest possible way to get an app on the app store or android. Well your in luck cause I'm gonna tell you. Learn Obj C and then publish your purely coded apps to the respected stores. That is literally the cheapest option as you only have to pay for the developer licenses on those stores. And it even gives you the most flexibility because you don't have to pay anyone for added features like in app purchases or literally whatever ad network you want to add to your game.

You'll have to excuse my "sarcasm" we get many many people around here looking for the cheapest way possible to scram the app store with another flappy bird clone so maybe I'm being a little rude, harsh or just plain ol mean.

Can i give you some advice. Read on if you want it. ;)

If your coming to app development with the sole purpose of making apps as cheaply as possible to make tons of money you will be sorely sorely disappointed. This is not a gold mine. Its more like a dust bowl where every once in a while someone finds a golden nugget.

If your here looking to learn about game development and maybe make that golden nugget you have always dreamed of well then your best bet is to forget about how fast you can make your money back and just expect you wont ever see it again. This will help you not cut corners in your creation and even better, once you do happen to come across that money again you will be super excited to see it. not just relieved that you got it back.

I hope you try out GS its a great tool and way easier to use than many others.

    Cheers
    Aaron

I love meeting aggressive folks like you- honestly. Obviously you've come to the conclusion that I'm looking for a "free ride" ... not at all.
I'm looking to publish something as a first try, and being a poor as !@#$% high school student, I'd rather not pay to publish a pile of dung.

As @tenrdrmer said, nothing is free in life. You can publish it to the arcade to see how you, and others, like it. If you are satisfied you can purchase the developer license from apple and charge $.99 to earn your money back.

That is the best part of this tool. You get to find out if it's a pile of dung before you have to spend a penny.
