Help with spamming buttons

in Working with GS (Mac)

the rest of the screenshot just says timer after 0.5 sec change game.attk to false, run to completion

My problem is that you can spam the button and he will freeze in attk mode, until you let go.
I can't work my head around it. I know because the first method goes false, its sending a call to the second conditional repeatedly, man I'm tired...any thoughts?
