Working With A Team (How Does It Work)

xJadonxxJadonx Member, PRO Posts: 46

Pretty soon I'd like to start a development team that uses GameSalad. The only thing I'm wondering is how more then one team work on a single game. I wouldn't think that everyone opens the same file from a local server, I could be wrong. Do they start different project files and eventually combine the actors to one game? If somebody knows, I'd really like to gain knowledge as to how this is done (along with some fine detail, which is preferable.)
Thanks!

You could place the GameSalad project file in a shared folder in Dropbox. This allows for multiple people to work on different parts of the game at the same time. When you save the file, it updates in Dropbox and your other team members can "Revert to saved" and your changes will show up on their project.

Most teams are two people. My Partner @RP and I work out the game ideas and concepts together he does the art and I do the coding. Working with teams larger than that is really not productive with GS.

So what if we're working simultaneous?

That's what I was referring to. I've worked on a team before and we used the Dropbox method I provided above. Granted, we did have to work in separate parts of the project file* but the method really helped development move forward.

*For example, I would work on a main mechanic while my partner worked on a scoring system.

Working at the same time has the potential for lost work. Normally when more than one person is coding I we would make sure only one of us was using the project at a time

It's very risky to have more than one person working on a single file that isn't meant for multi-person editing. Google Docs is great for that. GameSalad isn't. When I've collaborated with someone, we work on copies of the file and then update the DropBox version as the latest version. Good communication is crucial.
