Can anyone help me with image formats?

Hi,

Can someone please help me as I am very confused about the new changes regarding image formats. I know that Gamesalad has said that we should save our images as 24bit and not use other compression or 8bit. The trouble with this is my apps filesize is HUGE! I have an animated image sequence of 100 frames which alone adds 20mb to my .apk size!

For an experiment I tried saving the pngs as 8bit with 32 indexed colours. The app worked perfectly on my device and cut the .apk size in half. This was tried on v11.0.13. Admittedly there is no alpha channel on my images, would I have run into problems if I did?

Are Gamesalad just giving us a heads up because 8bit with indexed colour will not work in future versions?

Just wondered what everyone else is doing to reduce app size and meet Gamesalads current doctrine regarding image formats.

Seen lots of conflicting info on the forums so some precise clarification of best formats to use and why would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

p.s. I was hoping that by Gamesalad saying this that they would be doing some kind of image compression their end...they are not as my .apk came back about 2mb larger than the app I submitted.
