Why Can't I Edit My Binary??

When I sign my app with my ADHOC distribution profile, I produce a binary for it. If I examine the contents of the binary, open and edit one the files, save that file, then try to install my app on on my device, the App stops installing about 75% through. Am I not allowed to edit the binary??
