Iphone to ipad
Hey all,
So my game works! On iphone4, iphone5 AND ipad
I made the game for iphone5 portrait and after publishing universal i am lucky to see that it all works!
But.. On ipad of course the graphics arent as sharp as on iphone 5, because i made the actors x2 for iphone retina, but ipad resizes them x4 i think..
I tried resizing the background to the ipad retina demands (x2 normal ipad size, correct me if im wrong) but when trying to import gamesalad gives an error that the file is too big, properly because its an iphone5 portrait scene and not ipad portrait scene.
The game on ipad looks good enough in my opinion, disgarding the non-retina graphics.
Should this be a problem when i publish to app store? Will Apple reject because the graphics for ipad are not "retina"?

Anyone? Non-retina will be accepted for ipad when publishing universal?

Hi @BasGoodBoy as far as I remember, Apple will reject any iPhone app submitted that's not Retina display graphics, i.e Resolution Independence checked and twice width, twice height images of actual display size...
And so I'm thinking that situation is now the same for the iPad, i.e RI must be used as well...
I'm won't ever be a user of Universal personally - I'll make separate apps for both iPhone and iPad versions....
But if I was to use Universal, I'd surely make sure the sizes would be the other way around to what you say you've done.... i.e make all images for retina display on the iPad, then they reduce for use on the iPhone.... hope that helps - sorry if it's not what you wanted to hear though...

That's indeed not really what I hoped to hear @gyroscope, but I have to say I haven't seen anyone on the forums which made an iphone 5 app universal to iPad, and it all does work cause of luckily stretch and pixelart which makes everything looking good after all.
I just don't know when it's retina for ipad, i have a pixelart app, and wonder when it's really retina like that, since it's all pixelart and pixels only.
I could do the graphics x4 or x8 even, but really wondering if this is ipad retina then..
I might do what you say, and make it iphone 4 and 5 only, and not ipad.

The problem is with the GS image system as it is currently implemented. I wrote and published two games late last year/early this year before they changed it. I made one in iPhone 4 res and one in iPhone 5 res and used overscan for other devices and it looks great on non retina devices. I left Resolution Independence unchecked so the images are twice the size on retina and non retina devices.
I want to update them but I am waiting for GS to get their new image system out before I do that otherwise they will look like crap on larger (EDIT: non retina) devices like the iPad. There is not much you can do at the moment unless you start in a tablet size and overscan down to phone sizes.

@colander the images don't look crap testing on ipad, cause it's all pixelart which just gets a scale up.. just Im kinda sure its not Retina.
