GameSalad, Processor Test .... Insteresting....

Alright I have two iPod Touchs (both mb bootrom and obviously both 2nd Gen) I wanted to test some GS loading performance....
So I jailbroke one of them, (there both running 3.1.2) Loaded on some third party crapware.. You know background downloader, multitasking etc. And what do you know the jailbroken one runs a hell of a lot slower!
Most of you will say oh well obviously!
Well heres some tests I performed:
Pocket God: Regular: 18.6s Jailbroken: 23.2s
Minigore: Regular: 7.1s Jailbroken: 11s
Doodle Jump: Regular: 5.1s Jailbroken: 5.5s
Yes three classic iGames
JetPacked! Regular: 17s Jailbroken: 17s
Currently unannounced project by me: Regular: 15.2s Jailbroken: 15.2s
(Both of these are GS games made by me)
This pretty much nails the head in the GS processor coffin:
Obviously theres a preset time limit....
I hope this is addressed in .8.7 because this is unacceptable
(Also all of the game software was the same version)
(I started recording the time as soon as the app was pushed)
Feel free to test this yourself don't just believe what I tell you!
(BTW I did this test to the best of my ability, their might be slight human error, but you get the general idea between the tests)

Very interesting indeed, though.
+1 for summer
Yeah good post...and yeah they need to lower it for sure.
Darren.
Can you give a guess as to what you suspect?
The other side of it was just to be able to do more. There have been some great apps that have not been approved by apple and they are sold and can then be installed. i.e. An app has been created that is wirelessly syncing with itunes, apple rejected it and said when the 19 year old i think has finished uni then to send them a cv as they were impressed with how he did it. They were never gonna allow it on the store so he is now distributing it to jailbroken iphones for $9.99 (if i remember correct) and think at one point of reading the article had sold 20,000 (think it was the initail day/week) so had made $200,000 but he thinks he would of been a millionaire had apple allowed it!
So judging by the tests it seems when you've jailbroken an idevice it slows down a bit, as seen in the results. The fact that GS games loaded the same indicates that the load delay is not the engine or anything loading, its ready, just there is a specific time delay pre-built into our apps!
@original poster:
To be honest though, interesting though it is, a test group of just two GS Apps isn't enough to really draw any conclusions from. Try a few others (there are plenty of lite versions around if you don't want to spend some money!) and try them if you have time. If there's a 100% time sync across 10 or 15 apps, then *that* would make it more interesting!

Wouldn't mind hearing a head chef weigh in here.
First off, I want to let everyone know that we're currently looking into the load time issue. I can't say if this is for sure going to be resolved with 0.8.7, or if it will be with a later release. All I can say is that we're working on it.
Second, I can tell you that this, in no way, is a deliberate or intentional time delay. It's not for advertising, or anything else. Of that much, I am absolutely certain.
I hope this helps. Thanks, chosenonestudios, for bringing this to our attention.

Yodapollo, thanks for the update. It is much appreciated.
Cheers, Weswog
Also I have noticed faster load times when my game is smaller, even on the iPhone. Looking forward to the next update though as I'm kind of holding back a little, waiting for the engine to catch up with me.
1) It addresses and corrects a misconception.
2) It lets the community know what you're working on.
I look forward to improving and re-releasing my GameSalad games with the shorter loading times.
