Promoting within ourselves is questionable in itself. Sorry @Hopscotch. I know you meant well. I commend you for that. I made a thread about a game I made but no one even bothered. I guess they are right when they said don't promote your game to other developers. They see you as competition. No one cares if you take your time to post. After all the time I've been lurking around before I got the PRO, it's the same old story. The stories are true. They don't care about your game. They care about "their game".
Sorry I don't have ideas to make it easy for us. I guess it's not easy after all.
@yattamove, you are quite right and it is this mindset that I am trying to patiently counteract.
Maybe if more devs, who see the same problem, participate, then more might join in.
I will keep at it, even if it takes time I could use more selfishly.
The GS community has to shake off the "underdog" mentality, polite, shy and secretive.
Look at some of the incredible games coming out of the community, Super Heavy Sword is in the top grossing charts at the moment (with standard loading wheel).
Using GS is no excuse for doing anything half measure, not even marketing.
@yattamove, while this statement is somewhat true I'm sure:
They don't care about your game. They care about "their game".
I think it's more that other developers are too busy working on their own games, coding, promoting, creating art and audio. Not so much that they don't CARE about others games, just very busy with their own.
@Hopscotch @jamie_c @PhilipCC
Yup you guys are right. I guess everyone is busy working on their games. Being an indie game developer is really not for the faint of heart as @The_Gamesalad_Guru have said before. You must put a lot of different hats to pull it off. From conceptualizing the game, to drawing graphics/making sounds and effects, the actual game assembly.. up to the most hated but most important part: MARKETING!!!
I've read a funny excerpt from a dev: After years of toiling, sleepless nights and neglected wives... We are finally launching!
I'm in! Just submitted my app in nominapps.com. Let's make this work. Thanks guys!
What if we could have an app on our phones so we could click the links to directly download the games we publish? And maybe using push notifications to give us some kind of alert whenever a new game is out? I can do it, as my contribution to this roundtable what do you guys think of this?
Hi @HRocha, something like the "free app of the day" app, but instead "new community app"?
How would you do notifications?
The idea is great! Would like to get more feedback on what you are proposing.
I see you have set up the site using wordpress, right? At least until the end of the year we have an easy way to do notifications using UrbanAirship, they have a feature that sends a push every time you update a determined feed, should be easy to link it to your wordpress site... And I already have an app that we can work with, I just need to update my databases and its ready to show off our apps! It's already live in Apple's AppStore! It doesn't have push implemented, but I can update it, add other stuff and make it directly read your posts on wordpress.
I have downloaded every app in the site. I tried to rate and post a comment in the app store (I'm on my second try), but it does not show my ratings to them. Help!
@Hopscotch
It's actually one of my first apps, it was meant to be something like an app discovery service, but I started working on other stuff and it was left behind. It has been on the store for the last 2-3 years and may have some negative reviews because it hasn't been updated, but nothing to worry too much It does have a suggestive name, and because of that it still has some downloads... I'll update the databases with our apps from your site and then I'll post the link here (later today). Then we'll work on an update to the app itself.
About UrbanAirship, I have 1 million free pushes/month until the end of the year, we have until then to study other alternatives.

A bump and an invitation to the numerous apps that have come out this month, promote your games for free on nominapps (see signature link).

it's hard putting my game. It's just like publishing again in the stores.
@yattamove,
sending your promotional screenshots and description to nominapps is hard?
What do you suggest to make it easier for us to promote your game for free?

I agree whole heartedly… and as I said already, I will participate in your initiative asap.
But as you acknowledge, and as jamie_c says, we get busy with our own projects, our other work, our clients, our family and friends… our lives.
As soon as I get my next app live it will be up on nominapps for sure.
@yattamove I don't see you as competition, you are part of my community, the GS community, so we really can help each other if we try.
The other one million plus apps, just in iOS store alone, are our real competition!
Just don't expect the support from GS Forum members to be instant.
