Moving items as a group

Hi all,
I hope that I can explain this so you all understand, I am starting to confuse myself....
OK then, what I am trying to do is Move various actors all together and then press a button and the actors work independently. The best way I came describe this is to think of a game of billiards. Before you start you put all the balls in the triangle and they all move together, take the the triangle off and the and they all act independently of each other.
I am not making a billiards game before anybody asks.
