Looking for a surogate Apple developer

B1984B1984 Member, PRO Posts: 91

Hello Apple GS community,

I'm just about ready to publish a new game to the droid and Amazon markets and I would also like it on the Apple market. However I only have a PC and no Apple developer account. That's were my surrogate offer comes in.

I'm looking for someone to publish my game to the Apple market under their account. Profits will be split 50/50 and my half sent to paypal whenever you are paid. Obviously this will require trust so I have a few qualifications:

-GS community member for at least 6 months.
-Apple developer for at least 1 year with at least 3 published apps/games
-US developer
-Paypal account holder

If you are interested, PM me and we can talk further about this.

-Brandon

You may want to look into this instead: http://www.macincloud.com/

I don't think that will help me. I don't have an apple store account and I don't plan to get one. At least, not untill I know it's worth a hundred bucks.

This is actually a pretty clever business plan, no need to pay for the right to publish, everyone can simply publish through one person, so only one person needs to buy a Pro account, I can't see anything at all problematic with this idea, I mean how could it be a flawed plan, it seems pretty watertight to me :p

P.S . . . . anyone recently bought Dawn of the Planet of the Apes on DVD or Blue-ray ? I'm looking to grab a Quicktime rip of it if anyone could do that for me, I don't plan to buy the movie myself until I know it's worth paying for, don't really want to risk my own cash.

I don't think It's out yet. And it wasn't quite as good as the first one anyways. ;)

@Socks, I filmed it while I was in the theater, that's okay right? Want a copy?

Sure it's ok, no one loses, everyone wins, the theatre staff don't need paying anyhow, they are happy just to have the opportunity to eat the dropped popcorn between screenings - something which saves the theatre owners from having to buy a hoover - it's win-win.

Yes ! Just make sure you've got optical stabilisation switched off, you know how I complained about your recording of Spy Kids II.

@B1984‌ I would be willing to publish it for you. Send me a PM and we could discuss it further

If you went through a publisher (BulkyPix, Chillingo etc.) you wouldn't have to give so much of the profit away and the game would be much more visible in the store. Although I guess that may not help you as you'd still have to build the app... can you do that from a PC with GS?

Can you spot any issues here ? One person buys a Pro licence and anyone who doesn't want to pay the price of that licence themselves can simply publish through you ?

Tell me you can't see an issue here ?

By way of an example . . . . would you also be prepared to publish a game by me, I'd rather not pay for a Pro licence, so would you also be willing to do that, on the same terms as offered by B1984 ? And then how about others, why not make forum wide offer to publish everyone's projects, they save the cost of a Pro licence and if their game does well on the App Store you get a little kickback ?

Tell me you can't see an issue here ?

@Socks I think its shooting something out of the ball park. There isn't as big of issue here that you seem to be expressing.

To word the original post in other words, he is basically looking for a publisher. Isn't that what publishers do? Publish it to the App Store for you under their name and then take a certain percentage. In this case its 50/50.

Why would people, like myself use this, if I am only going to get 50% of what I would be earning. Unless I am missing something - this doesn't seem like an issue.

If he was trying to get Pro features through the publisher than there would be an issue, but that is not stated in the post.

    Regards.

Yea, I'm not sure what Socks is talking about. I just want the app on the Apple market. I don't have a mac, iphone, or an apple store account. I don't even have a clue how an apple product works. If he's talking about a GS pro account, I have that.

If someone wants an already built game that only needs them to sign and publish to their store and receive 50% of whatever it makes, that's a great deal in my opinion.

Is your suggestion that anyone with a Pro account is a publisher - and so can offer others their services, amongst which is publishing apps for people who would rather not buy a Pro liscence themselves ?

This is a guenuine question, can you see any issues with this ?

  • MattButlerStudiosMattButlerStudios Member Posts: 486

@B1984‌ that is exactly what I am talking about. If someone is willing to put the time and effort into making a game, and all I have to do is publish to make money, why not do it! I have a pro GS account and and an active Apple Dev account. I would love to post this for you.

  • Tiny_IdeasTiny_Ideas Member Posts: 326

@Socks - I don't have the time to push this - it really doesn't affect me.

If you will there is an issue than there must be some kind of issue I am overlooking.
My view on this is specific to this post. If someone wants to "partner up" with another developer to get their app on the App Store I don't see any harm in that.
Either way, Apple will get its revenue from it's 30% and the creator will receive his/her 50% and the developer who partnered up with will received his end of the deal.

Its no different than what a publisher does. Instead, its a partnership.
Like I said, it is to do with this specific case, Someone has bought PRO, and needs a means of getting onto an App Store and the only way to do this is through partnership.

It would become an issue if someone who has become PRO publishes other non PRO member's games for free. That would be an issue. But currently I am not seeing any issue here.

Thats all from me, I am not actually invested in this topic, as its steered off from not having an Apple Dev account to not having a PRO account. Two completely different things.

I don't see any issues either. If someone wants me to write and publish or write and they publish or publish what they write it is all part of a service provided. It can be paid or paid and a sales split or a sales split it's all fine by me.

Yeah, there are those types that bask in glory without making the effort themselves.

It's almost like those die hard sports fanatics. "We did it!" Although their effort was raising their beer to their chops.

Agreed, they're not the same, but I'd say the principle was the same.

@Socks‌ -- I think they are fundamentally different. With an Apple Dev account, you are becoming that -- an Apple Dev. For the price, you get access to WWDC footage, beta releases of Apple software, etc. @B1984‌ doesn't want any of that. He doesn't even have a Mac or any Apple hardware. He doesn't want Apple Dev benefits for no money. He couldn't put those benefits to use anyhow. He just wants to publish his game and is willing to give away 50% of his profits for that. Fair enough. Really like using a publisher. If you publish through any other company, you are doing absolutely the same thing (only keeping more of your cash, most likely).

There is a service, called TuneCore, which does something like that for music. You want to be on iTunes? You can publish it there (and in other stores) through them for a cut of the profits. Completely legit.

Who is going to pay the taxes? Have you thought this through? Unless you two form an LLC Matt will be liable for the taxes when apple gives him a 1099.

  • BazookaTimeBazookaTime Member Posts: 1,274

I doubt this game will make enough money to stress out about who is going to pay the taxes.

  • pHghostpHghost London, UKMember Posts: 2,342

    @BazookaTime‌ -- Right on.

Plus, even if Matt would be paying the taxes, with getting 50% of what it makes, that's still worth it.
