Worse few days of my life | Keystore help

Over the weekend, my PC went insane. After spending over 8 hours of messing around, Monday,I finally managed to reinstall Windows 8, then 8.1 and begin the painful process of installing all my software, settings etc again. (the reason why it took so long, is that I purchased Win 8 online, and in their wisdom,Microsoft had archived my product key :/ )

Fast forward to today. After setting up GS on my PC, I then went to download my AMD drivers for my GPU. Then, my PC went insane again. Fast forward FIVE more F*****ng hours and I am back up and running.

Whilst I tried to assign the apk tools in GS, I had issues with my keystore file. It wouldnt accept it. This could be because my Hard drive letter had changed or something else.

After my rant, my question is - is there a way to copy my Notepad text file and use it on my iMac then use the keystore there, as all my new apps will be published from my Mac. The reason why I want to use my old Keystore file is that I have a couple of older titles, that have done pretty well and in the process of updating them on Google play. If it doesnt match, the apk will get rejected.

Any one managed to do this?

I've never transfer my keystore files from Pc to Mac (mainly because I don't publish from my Windows machine), but I don't see why you can't do it. You could just send the keystores to your email or upload them to a server I guess. Shouldn't be hard.

Hmmm. Its a note pad/text document, and Mac uses its own note pad, but keystores are done through the terminal? Kinda screwed if I cant make it happen. Will try tomorrow.

Drag the keystore over and try signing with it and see what happens.

Try and recover the data off the hard drive. Test disk is a tool I have used before. It worked great for me. You can download it from the following link http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download There are other tools you can get to do a bit level data recovery as well. People charge a lot of money to do this. Good tools can be found on Hiren boot CD http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd I recovered 3 hard drives using these tools 5 years ago. It took 4 days but I got the data back. I have not checked the tools on the latest version of the CD so I am not sure what they have on it now. It probably won't help you now but if you fail to backup your data next time a drive fails provided it is not physically damaged you can recover the data ... Don't format it or restore windows if you have data on it you need. Also when you setup your machine always setup two or three partitions. One partition for the OS the second partition is for your data and apps and the third partition is for an image of your system so when it fails you can recover it in half an hour not 5 hours later. Good luck I hope it works out for you

@jigglybean when you have everything set up like you want it again then go and do yourself a favor and buy a copy of "Acronis True Image 2014" and do a full backup to a usb drive so that you can do an easy restore when you need to.

I thought that was the idea of the Windows recovery. Clearly it wasn't. Windows sits on its own hard drive, a lesson I learnt after getting burnt by Vista. The confusion, comes from the renaming of the hard drives, don't even ask me why it decided to do that and its this what has caused the problem with my keystore and APK tool files.

I haven't lost anything in terms of work etc, just time pissing around with Windows and getting caught in the repair cycle followed by black screen. Urgh. Thanks for your tips, I will look at other options.

What do you mean by the renaming of the hard drives ? Do you mean they got new drive letters ? If that is the only issue then you can change the drive letters manually back to the original and rename the drives if required. Windows would have changed the drive letter to be able to recover the data as it is not possible to recover data from the same partion or drive to it self ...

EDIT: Sorry dude I didn't pay attention while reading your post. If your issue is changing the drives back to the original letters / names then you can do that manually and see if GS accepts your keystore or just make sure that the path to your keystore is set correctly if not then do what Mr Bacon said and drag the keystore to your mac change the extention of the keystore file to match the mac keystore files if required then see if that works. Im not sure if changing the extention is required as ive only done all this on a Mac and never on windows.
