    @BigDave‌ @tenrdrmer‌ I think the problem is iAds. Most advertisers who use iAds, only advertise in the US. since your game is doing not so good there, I think you should use chartboost or revmob. But incredible to see a game reaching the top in many countries, congrats man!

    @Approw‌ Does Chartboost and RevMob perform well? Feels like people wont click them :smile:

  • ApprowApprow Member Posts: 703

    @Dues‌ I think so, but you shouldn't spam the player by showing them on every button they press. I'm not an expert in marketing, but I believe that people who play these type of games, click on interstitial ads quiet often because the advertised games are also addicting games. I personally never click on ads, but those people are out there trust me:)
    The average click rate is around 4% I think. Imagine 80.000 downloads, 3200 people click on an ad, multiply that with $1.50 average CPI (could be much more ofcourse). $4800 is not bad for the first 3 days ;)

  • ApprowApprow Member Posts: 703

    @ImNiklas‌ good point, but im sure he will earn more money by using chartboost;)

  • DuesDues Member Posts: 1,159

    @ImNiklas‌ But you would still be paid per click even if they are not installing the game right?

    @tenrdrmer‌ -- try playing the Sha Man -- as BigDave himself mentions, right now there are interstitial ads on nearly every scene change. You get almost more ad time than app time. If you think that is a good marketing strategy, I won't try to convince you otherwise.

    I generally prefer iAd banners, though it of course depends on the game, device and orientation of the device. Interstitials at the beginning of the game and then as someone suggested, possible once per five games, still OK. Anything more than that I would avoid at all costs.

    This is not about people willing or not willing to pay. I have iAds in my app, and IAP to get rid of them. That is entirely valid. But if the ads get in the way of enjoying the app, you are doing a disservice to yourself.

    @BigDave‌ -- great to hear that the amount of ads in Sha Man will go down. Will go back to playing once there is more game than advertising!

    @pHghost‌
    the page app advice kicked it off.
    And they discovered the app by themselves.

    An other thing is that I got a mail from apple now.
    Mentioning that they want to feature iAds banners through the app.

    @bigdave Congrats man! That's awesome news. Keep those updates coming.

    Yet again, sad day for developers. Everyone just wants a free game and no consideration for the time and money that goes into it.

    Love this mentality of "no I won't pay $1 for your game to try it out cause so many scrote bags have jipped me on crappy games but in also gonna delete your game if you put ads in there."

    The even sadder thing is I bet if he put a $1 IAP to remove the ads you guys would also throw a fit. Everyone wants something for nothing.

    bigdave I say drop in your interstitial ads. The people you lose won't Matter anyways cause they will never pay you for yor efforts. Personally is much rather click through a full screen ad over seeing a constant iAd anyways.
    And at $80 for 80,000 downloads that's terribly sad for iAds. You used to be able to pull in that much on 5-10k worth of downloads.

    Congrats on your success!!! I hope you are lucky enough to keep it going.

    If that's what your taking away from this then it's going to be tough time being an app developer.

    It's such a simple game with limited replay value. That might be an issue. No one is saying they are going to delete the app of he puts ads in it. Not sure where you came to that conclusion .

    I simple put out the idea that instead of cashing in on this game, keep the players happy, take a loss on this one, because when you release a new game, one that has Iaps set up from the start or ads or what ever it may be, you can still reach those 80k to announce the game. As well as future games. I just see that it's an importance to build a user base first.

    All the best, must be exciting and look forward to future releases.

    @Jeromy good points too. the question is how much likely is that they do remember the developer. but certainly some. btw another 30 k downloads today
    110 k downloads. = 110 Dollar iAd revenue

    @pHghost‌
    the question is if i can make this work with game salad.

    Sounds a lot like custom implementation which I will not be able to do with game salad.

    Thats the mail from apple:

    Hello

    My name is XX, and I am a part of Apple's iAd Publisher Relations team. I'm establishing contact to see if I can offer some support and advice about in-app monetization through advertising.

    I am reaching out specifically to you because I've noticed your app “three points" and I believe there is good opportunity for you to earn additional revenue by featuring iAd advertising in-app. If you have some time in the next few days to chat, I would appreciate the opportunity to connect and give you an overview of the process, as well as discuss the details about implementation, revenue generation, etc.

    Perhaps we can set up a call to discuss in more detail? In the meantime, feel free to email with any questions.

    All the best,

    @BigDave‌ -- To me it seems they are simply suggesting you add iAds to your app, and that it should help you generate money from the downloads you are getting.

    That is simple to do in GameSalad. Just add the 'Show Banned' ad behavior, move some score displays etc. if necessary (if the banner covered them), and check the iAds box before generating the app on the GameSalad website. Upload update to Apple an voila!

  • BigDaveBigDave Member Posts: 2,239

    @goliath thanks!
    @pHghost
    lets see. if it only is about the banner it's weird since banners are already part of the app.

    I have a feeling they mean displaying your game as an iAD in other apps. just a hunch

    (I stopped playing your game The Sha Man after the last update, because it became unbearable). The only thing you will achieve this way is bad reviews and people avoiding your apps

    I beg to differ. two perfectly good examples. I do agree to many ads is a bad thing and over kill but the developers have to make money somehow. and the consensus among a large number of users is the games should just be free. they don't want ads and they don't want to pay for them. we've already been forced into the ad market cause people won't pay $1 for a freaking game anymore. and now many don't even want to play a free game if it has ads.

    Personally I hate ads in apps but if the app is "free" with ads in with an option to disable ads for a dollar then that is totally fine (developers of good apps should get payed). If it is an app that I like then I will pay to unlock it and leave a positive review.

    Then there are some that release an app, charge a dollar for it upfront and then have ads in the app anyway (with no option to disable them). This may be because they are free GS users or because they have other motives. To me that is very annoying and in that scenario (with overly usage of ads) I would stop playing that app and leave a review to enlighten other potential buyers of this.

    @BigDave Nice job on this app, very simple yet addicting with a clean graphical style!

    @BigDave‌ what da!! did you see the "three points triangle" game in play store? Is that legal that people can copy your game??

  • The_Gamesalad_GuruThe_Gamesalad_Guru Member Posts: 9,922

    I find it funny people are arguing about revenue and most people are here with some hope of making money off a successful game. The folks who don't get the need for revenue must still live at home. @BigDave‌ Congrads and I would switch to ad mob to cover other countries. There is a balance to doing ads. I would do banners and an interstitial ad after game over. Plus I believe in having an IAP to remove ads. If people bitch about ads then pay the damn dollar.

    Awesome! Congrats @BigDave‌ ! Can you give any tips how you managed to do it? ;) did you do something different this time?

  • BigDaveBigDave Member Posts: 2,239

    @simon31184‌
    at this point i don't care anymore if people copy it, its just flattering.
    300 000 People have the original thats fine for me. Still waiting for the patch to be approved containing chart boost + in-app so i might make a bit more money.

    @The_Gamesalad_Guru‌
    Thanks! And thank you too its people like you that made me able to make games that rapidly and learn that quick I found a lot questions here answered by you so your big player man!

    Update is coming soon i hope..
    if they approve, the first update attempt rejected.. (missed to add the IAP item to the game through the detail page)
    I fixed it and re-uploaded 30 min after rejection but now 9 days past.
    2 other apps later handed in got approved within 2 days..
    There was also a text typo in the game which is kind of embarrassing. I consider dev reject and upload again.. another 7 days..

    @timolapre1998‌
    Its simplicity in graphics and mechanic with a nice use of space.
