New to Game Salad

I'm trying out game salad and have been running into a issue.
It may be noobish for me to ask but for some reason I cannot connect
to find updates within game salad basic, it keeps telling me to check the URL
but the thing under preferences it shows only check for updates.
Can I resolve this?
Second, in the version I have that's up to date, I notice in this particular video, though on a mac,
I cannot see the words for some of the buttons like the Game/Scene button on my version of the
software.
I'm using a PC version.
And I'm trying to figure if its a graphics issue because I have a pretty good Card.

Also can you sell advertising in your game?

    2 no , you can't use 3d animation
