Can GS read from a file?

I have a game idea that would require GS to randomly choose words to display on screen. Scratch that, now that I think of it, I would need GS to:
1. open, or peek into a file
2. if the user's input (keyboard or voice command access) matches a string in the file
3. execute action/change attribute
This would be a key game mechanic.
Didn't notice, but does GS allow u to utilize the keyboard? If it doesn't? Do you guys think that I could create a grid, and assign text images to them and make a virtual keyboard within the game?
