Help with team development using Git & BitBucket

Hi,
I'm starting a club at my school where we're going to be using GameSalad. My brother, who's an actual programmer, taught me how to use git and bitbucket, and this looks like a good tool for sharing scripts and such. But since GameSalad edits a couple different .xml files when you just change/add/remove an actor, I'm not exactly sure how this is going to work out. Am I going to have to manually edit the object.xml and scenes.xml or whatever so nothing is lost between merging branches? This is the thing I mainly am wondering now, but if anyone who has used git and bitbucket with GameSalad could just tell me anything you think I need to know as well that would be extremely helpful.
