Text not displaying

Hi,

Another problem I am having is with displaying multiple lines of text.

I've created an actor to display game instructions via a display text behaviour.

It all works well in the preview screen and when published to mac, but when published to iphone the text is off to the far lefthand side of the screen.

Any ideas ?

i dont know without seeing all of your rules. you have asked this question in your previous post, please dont start multiple threads relating to the same question, people will see it and im sure people will answer, have a little patience ;)

Sorry, I wasn't being impatient, just thought that as this was a different question to my first thread then I needed to make a new one.

Don't have any rules in this actor and it does work all ok in the preview screen and when published to mac and run on the mac.

Basically what I have is a button that says "How to Play"

When this button is touched if changes the scene to my "Game Instructions" scene.

On this scene I have only one actor with only a display text behaviour that displays 12 lines on text.

The text is there but over to the far left of the screen and you can only see that last couple of chars, whereas in preview it is all visible.

The only thing new I have done is use the alt + enter to create more lines of text as the standard display text behaviour only had one line.

I found the alt+enter option by searching the forum but have not used this before and wondering if this may be the issue.

in order to make my multiple lines display text appear in X=160
i need to put my display text actor at X=490

so it at 490 but it acts as if it was 160

Hi, it's alt + return for a new line; perhaps the prob occurs when you use alt + enter?

enter is the same as return. And actually, although my problems weren't to do with text, I have noticed some dodgy X and Y locations since the .87 update. Maybe it's related? A bug?

I was led to believe that a Mac keyboard maps the return key to a carriage return, while the enter key maps to a line feed. As Gendai recommend alt + return, this is a soft return, as you know. I'm not sure, but I think alt + enter is a hard return, which might not be mapped in GS. And cos there's a difference, thought it might have something to do with it?

    *googles return key*

I had absolutely no idea that there was a difference between the two. My bad. In which case, you may be correct :)

my god this question sounds bad (especially for a "developer"),

Hi p-o-m; no worries at all, sometimes the most straightforward of things stumps me as well! (mind you, I normally blame my age... ;-)

The enter key is only on extended keyboards, where you've got a number pad as well. The key with the return arrow symbol (just under the delete key) is your return key. Making sure that your cursor is at the end of a line in the Display Text Behaviour, press alt (or option, also called on some keyboards) and return at the same time. You'll then get your cursor, starting at a new line, run on from the previous, to type your next line.

    And don't worry, I won't tell anyone! :-)

    thanks for the quick reply,
i have the small mac keyboard, the return and the enter key are the same key,
i think fn+return is enter, so basically im doing it right (i think)
the cursor is starting at a new line! , and i even see the text block in the viewer on the mac,
but when i view it on the iphone it goes about 200 pixels to the left!
do you know about this issue?!

@ p-o-m, small apology to you; I should have guessed you knew where the return key was! In my enthusiasm to try to help out, I do tend to over-explain sometimes...

I've also got the small Mac keyboard, and you've just taught me something! Do you know, I've never noticed the small enter symbol at the base of the return key? (Perhaps I need new glasses...)

Your problem does seem strange; RH could well be right, that there's a bug. Sorry I can't be any more helpful here. (Not that I've been helpful anyway, after all that.... "drumming fingers"...)

    :-)
