I think he said all looks sharp when RI is unchecked. If so, it's a separate issue that doesn't have anything to do with actor placement.
You are probably right, it's just that lately I have found that with RI on, moving an actor to a sub-pixel position (specifically 0.5 pixels offset) brings them back into focus, it was more of test than a recommendation as there is every chance that an actor set on - for example - 100.5 x 203.5 might look good in Creator but then blur on the actual device . . . . but to be honest I don't really know any more, I am going to give up offering advice on this kind of thing until the dust has settled !
I want to thank everyone for giving their best advice on it. Unfortunately, I have to keep moving. I have been given a deadline on this, and its highly restrictive, so I think im going to have to take the risk of leaving RI off. if it ends up softer on retina devices, thatll be sad, but its better than the half sharp half blurry image i was getting on the older ipad. But thanks again.

Ah, I see ! Didn't realise it was up and going already !

I think a good test would be to make the original image @3x size and see if its still blurry with RI checked.
