Gamesalad Arcade and Sound "My experience,lol"........

BBEnkBBEnk Member Posts: 1,764

So was trying to publish my first ever game to the Arcade "for the Game Jam Old School" and gotta tell you trying to get sound to work is a stitch which I'm sure some of you know, lol.

So I ended up getting it to work in Chrome and Safari, and "yes" Gamesalad Creator but I dropped Firefox "just would not play along".

So here's what I learned and no real proof if things will act the same in next project.

my Game only has 4 sounds Blip,Laser,Engine,Explosion

if I use .ogg sound file

Creator sounds work
Safari no work
Chrome Blip,Laser works
FireFox Engine,Explosion works

if I use m4a for Blip, mp3 for Laser, and Explosion, aac for Engine.

Creator no sounds
Safari no sounds
Chrome works
FireFox works

if I use all m4a
Creator no sounds
Safari works
Chrome works
Firefox no sound

if I use m4a and ogg
Creator sounds worked
no Browser worked.

if I use m4a and wav --- "and this is what I settled on".
Creator works
Safari works
Chrome works
Firefox no sound

This is not my entire list of what I tried been working on it all day but just some examples.

Anyway if anyone has a one in all solution I liked to hear it..I read some things on forums but nothing useful.

Screw that. why do that let this happen. GS created game...wont play on a GS arcade. Useless. I assume they dont know how to convert sounds during a pubkish to arcade or they would have done it by now. This issue has been around since my first submission to the arcade over a year ago.

Its like that ring of poop/pee in your toilet bowl. You know you should clean it, but just don't care to.

Try WAV it is the most supported HTML 5 sound format. Just lookup sound and html 5.

On my first game .wav alone would not work so I added .m4a and it all worked perfect for what ever reason.

and I just tested my second game and .wav alone works except in Safari I have one sound that loops and it want stop looping but I think I read that is a bug.

anyway It's all good the more I experiment the more I learn.

Your right .wav works perfect if done right, lol

I was importing the .wav but creator converts them to .ogg so once I had them in creator I opened up game file and added the .wav manually and deleted the .ogg and now all 3 of my games sounds work perfect in Safari,Firefox, and Chrome.

I think before left the .ogg in and that caused a issue with the .wav files.

    Anyway Thanks.

Yeah I forgot to say that. You need to import and then replace them in the folder. I did that for the Tizen HTML 5 when messing with it. WAV was the best.
