Recommendation for a cheap android tablet for testing android releases

I want to release some of my apps on android but need recommendations for a cheap android tablet for testing on. Would it suffice to buy a 7 inch no name brand? Should try and get on with a specific aspect ratio, I'm using stretch so I guess aspect ration isn't a factor? I noticed that most of the cheap tablets are running ice-cream sandwich or Jellybean as apposed to Kitkat or Lollipop, how does that affect testing? Any pitfalls I should be looking out for?

I'd get the $99 6" kindle fire. If it works on that it'll perform similarly on all android devices.

thanks @jonmulcahy‌ but unfortunately here in South Africa they charge $300 for it
