Actors not appearing when starting off screen ARGGH!!

I have a peculiar problem with actors that do not start on the screen never appearing. I'm trying to use jamie_c's tutorial on how to make a repeating background. The background that starts off screen (and has a move behavior) NEVER comes down on to the screen UNLESS it starts just a little bit on the screen. I have googled for the majority of the day and cannot find a solution for this, can someone please help! :) Here is a brief screencast:

Also: when I add a 1024x768 sized image as an actor, why does GS automatically resize it to 1/2 size?

All actors that are more than 500 pixels outside the scene are destroyed.

The reason it's changing to half size is because you have retina (resolution independence) selected on the home page so uncheck this if you don't want retina art.

You would need to make your art at double the size if you want retina so for your background image of 1024x768 you need to make it 2048x1536

Not sure why the actor is not appearing when placed out of the scene because im on iPad ATM so couldn't view the screencast but if an actors too far out of scene gs will delete it.

Thank you Darren, I understand about retina art now! I can't mark it as answered because I'm totally stuck until I can figure out why the actor won't come on screen. I'm following every tutorial on this I can find to the letter.
(on a side note I coincidently just visited your DeepBlueApps website a few hours ago and it's awesome!)

May have something to do with you trying to move your actor 'relative to scene', and it's actually not in the scene. So its moving relative to nothing.

Try the 'change velocity' function. Just change (actor -> motion -> linear -> Y) to -200 or something, and it'll fly down.

@jsorr2‌ that's a really good point I'll try that as soon as I get home.

@Socks‌ if that's true then how do I make a repeating background in iPad resolution since the 2nd background that will come down and recycle will be more than 500px above the screen?

Thank you for taking time to help, I hope I can return the favor somehow someday.

Make your scene taller than 1024 pixels high.
