INFINI-GOLF - [alpha update #1]

marc_greiffmarc_greiff Member, PRO Posts: 250

Hi all, here's a game idea that was originally meant for the first GS game jam but due to work and other things fell to the wayside. So, now that I have some time freed up, I figured I might as well finish this project off!

Enjoy the alpha test video and stay tuned!

    Looks cool... :)

nice idea of mixing up the simplicity of a Flappy Birds type of game with a golf one...

Nice! What else happens when you get the golf ball into the hole?

Looks promising! Love the art. One thing though, I would definitely speed up the ball movement. I hate when things take too long :#

I actually thought I was going to buy and support indie developers. But then I had seen this on Toucharacde and made me rethink. Is this what your game is a copy of?

@Tiny_Ideas I would say no its not a copy, there's been a few 2D side on golf games released on the stores, Stickman Golf is probably the most popular so inspired yes probably but not a copy.

This one looks like a never ending golf game which i think is original :)

It's a combination of that game and flappy bird. I like that idea.

Looks like a clone to me but no big deal as many games nowadays are variation of each other. Maybe, I'm wrong but it's very difficult to have a completely original ideas.

@Tiny_Ideas‌ Up until your post I thought I had come up with an creative and unique idea! But no, its not a copy, if you look at the posting date of that game it was added on the 15th of this month and I believe I posted my game on the 12th. At any rate, very similar indeed. My inspiration was originally to do a mr. aahhh style game for the first gamesalad game jam, but i needed a way to make it different than mr. aahh so, being a fan of desert golf as well, I decided to mash the two games together with a pinch of flappy bird design. 2d golf games date back pretty far so I doubt either of us could claim we invented the genre, but my game differs in that its the same platform over and over again (with varying heights and gaps between the greens) and 'golf is hard' appears to have different holes either procedurally generated or designed.

@DeepBlueApps‌ thanks for the benefit of the doubt!

    a few more things to lay rest to any doubts;

looking at the video further, its pretty clear our play styles are completely different. Golf is hard looks to have a pretty standard golf rule set in that there are strokes, penalties, and pars for each hole. Infini Golf is a stripped down version of golf with only three outcomes to each shot--1) you miss the green and gameover 2) you land on the green but not in the hole, you progress 3) you get a hole in one, score a point, progress to next hole. Really, the only other similarity is the power and pitch meters, but again, those mechanics are pretty ancient as well and can be seen in plenty of atari 2600, etc. era games.

*correction, Golf is hard doesnt appear to have a par system either!

All the best. Its certainly looks polished. You might be able to check out the feedback on golf is hard so you do not experience the same issues.

This is totally different than golf is hard! It's golf yes but different :) wait until you see my golf game :) I've never actually saw a game like what I've developed! 4 more weeks work I think

Cool concept. I like the Stick Hero mechanic between platforms. Maybe you can add different characters to choose from and win to keep players coming back.
