The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
It's that time of year again!
I've started a thread for the last two years about the Hobbit movies and thought that I'd open a thread this year, too. Discuss your expectations, thoughts or anything else related to the third movie of the trilogy: The Battle of the Five Armies. I was a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and was waiting for a Hobbit movie (just my luck! There's three!) to be released. I'm so excited to see the final installment - I'm a LotR and Hobbit maniac. I'm headed to the theater tonight to watch the first showing at 7pm. Is anybody else going?
What are your expectations? Did you enjoy the other movies?
For those who haven't had the pleasure of seeing anything of the movie, allow now your pupils a few moments to soak up the beauty of this awe-inspiring trailer.

Looking forward to getting the Blu-Ray (don't really do the cinema)
I'll be closing the series with my son, we took in the first two together so we are both looking forward to the big battle at the finish!

I would be there right away. But sadly I've 'got the bronchitis.'
I read the Hobbit in middle school and fell in love. For one reason or another I never got around to finishing the first LoTR book. To me this movie marks the end of an amazing era of film making. These movies started back when all the major movie series were starting up. Long ago enough for my wife to own the first LoTR on VHS. Weird.
Not my thing. Give me Star Wars any day of the week!

It's been turned into a tradition for me to get together with family and friends to eat, drink, and go watch the Hobbit in HFR 3D. Super excited for this weekend ( also my birthday) but sad it's the last one.

That's great. I hope you both enjoy it!
That's awesome. I hope y'all enjoy it, too! And Happy Birthday!
I saw the film twice last night. In my opinion, it was a great finish to the trilogy. Everything flowed much better in this movie (being the shortest in length of the 3, I believe). Character development was good and I was sad to see the end of the film. I think this final movie ties everything up very nicely and is a great setup for LotR.
The only thing I really 'hate' about these Hobbit movies is the over-reliance of CGI. The fight sequences and battles just don't have the same effect as, say, the Lord of the Rings battles where they actually had people in makeup.

Off to watch it next week with my brother and 3 year old niece. Thanks to my brother, his daughter is a complete sci-fi and fantasy geek. She was ill a few weeks back, and whilst off from nursery for the day she chose (and I really mean chose) to watch the full Lord of the Rings trilogy for about the twentieth time.
I'm guessing we'll be going to an early viewing... Partly due to her age... And partly due to the fact that she'll probably be yabbering away through the movie, telling me all about stuff... Which probably wouldn't go down well with a mature audience.
So yup... Will probably be watching it with 200 or so kids... Should be fun
I have never seen any of The Lord Of The Rings or Hobbit films, but I am a big Tolkien fan.
I have lost count how many times I have read the books and always find a new aspect when reading them.
I think if I had the choice to either read the books first and then watch the movies or the other way round, I would have watched the films first because I think that I would be disappointed with what I had visualised in my mind and the film maker's interpretation of Tolkien's text.
I have seen clips of course and they do look quite impressive
