title 1 or title 2?

Hi guys, I've decided on the title of my first GS-made app - for the iPhone first. It's to be called Holiday Flip. Now a question - would Vacation Flip sound better to you? i.e I'm sure American citizens know that here in the UK, our holiday is the equivalent of the American vacation. But what about Europeans, speaking English as a second language? Would they use the US word "vacation", or the UK's "holiday"? Your vote in the poll is appreciated, thank you.

This might seem slightly petty to some people, but the word used as a majority might influence sales in a positive sense, possibly...and anyhow, I like to get things just right; it'll save me being niggled later on... ;-)

    I have no idea!

When you *do* settle on a name though, go into itunes connect and add your application there. You can upload the binary later, but filling in the title will show you if it's already been taken.

If it hasn't, you can 'reserve' your own name by filling in the details. Then no-one can use that title for their own apps.

    Just a thought ;)

    QS :D

Ah, didn't know you could do that, QS, excellent advice, thank you! I'll get onto that very shortly. (Although, to do this, would I need to be a member of the iPhone Developers Program?)

America is the bigger market, so if knowing the game has to do with vacation is important, I would use that word. In the US, holiday in an app name would make me think of Christmas or Thanksgiving most part. Most people in the US would have no idea what you were meaning if you said "holiday."

    US - Vacation

Thanks design219 & scitunes, I see the logic there; Vacation Flip it'll be. Actually, it'll now be Vacation Flips.

Hope no one pinches the name before I get the chance to register it via itunes connect... ;-)

Thanks Franz. For the record, I've put that project on hold, because I needed so many non-repeating randoms, that I decided to work on another. There's a really long-winded way I worked out for the randoms, but using 18 actors times 2 at a go, I decided to leave it.

For your and anyone else's interest, here's the start of the abandoned project:

Another very small thing to consider, on the IPhone and touch you will have at max 13 character spaces for the name. You have 14 (the space counts) so the name will be truncated.

Not a big deal to most people, especially if your icon is really strong, but still.

Longer names get cut in the middle with an ellipse stuck there. For instance Poodle Invasion is displayed as poodl...asion on my phone.

What if you name the binary something abbreviated and then submit it using the longer name in iTunes? I'm pretty sure I have d/l'd apps that show abbreviated names on the device.

My next game is going to be called Titans of Longrass... so that on the iPhone it says Tit...ass.

Harrio explained to me that whatever you upload via Gendai Games is the title of your game on the device.

So, say your game is called, er, 'Titans of Longrass', for example. If you just wanted to call it 'Titans' you'd upload the binary using GameSalad as 'Titans'.

On iTunes connect you'd call it the full name - Titans of Longrass.

Thus, when people search for your game on iTunes it'll come up with the full name, but on your device it will just say 'Titans'

    Hope that makes sense?

    QS :D

Why don't you reserve both names and make a game with each title. Menu/splash screens would have different art depending on the title. Then switch up the gameplay graphics in each so they look different but use the same engine.

    Is this frowned upon?
