Military voice radio effect with Audacity

I am currently working on a simple game where I require some voice with military effect. I searched for free ones on the net, and I could not get one. It turned out that it is easy to make one myself (thanks to Youtube). I don't know whether it will be useful to you guys or not, but I want to share on how to make military voice radio effects by yourself with Audacity.

1. Record your voice in Audacity, and select the recorded voice (Ctrl+A)
2. Effects > Equalization ( put it on 30dB)
3. Effects > High Pass Filter (Rolloff 24dB, or any values in the options, you have to test what suits you best, I find 24dB give me the best effect. Cutoff frequency 1,000Hz)
4. Done

Now you have your own military voice with radio effects. Surely you have to play a little bit with the values to get what suits you best.

If you have walkie talkies you can use those as they give a much more realistic effect. Including the squelch effect.

This doesn't mean anything, the 30dB could be attenuation or amplification, and you'd need to say what frequency you are boosting or cutting at (as well as the shape/slope of the cut).

For a really good radio effect (which I think is what you mean by a 'military' effect) you should try a band pass filter if you have one, or you could make your own by combining a low pass with a high pass, throw in some mid-range saturation/distortion and then compress/limit it to death !

@Socks : Thanks for the advice, to be honest with you, I don't really understand how the method works (you know the dB the frequencies the filter and all that), but it works fine for me. Maybe next time I'll try your advice. Thanks!
