Google Play IAP advice needed

RedRoboRedRobo Member, PRO Posts: 682

I was just wondering whether to actually charge for my next app or add it as an in-app purchase on a previous app.

Just wondered what peoples experience was of in-app purchasing on GooglePlay? Is is fairly straight-forward to set up and how does your revenue income compare to using advertising alone?

Any advice much appreciated :)

IAPs is pretty straight forward in GP. The problem with Google play is that 90% of those who use it, do not wish to pay for their apps in terms of an actual purchase, not IAPs.

If you look at the top of the 'paid' charts, its not big numbers when compared to Apple(maybe). There's nothing stopping you making a paid and a light version.

Look at this example. I recently downloaded 'Pop Fishes' as it was trending on GP and only released a few days ago and already had around 50k in free downloads.

I then checked out the developers other games and there was Pop Fishes paid but released in Nov 2014 and it's barely had 5-10 downloads as a paid app.

Google Play is a challenging market place. The majority want free apps, then complain and give 1-2 star ratings (like with pop fishes) even when it is free.

However, I would consider Amazon. They are a royal pain in the arse to work with but in terms of actual paid downloads, that's where I have made 99% of my income. The only problem now is, that Google have removed the Amazon App from their store, so users have to go through a stupid process to obtain it. Of course, Kindle Fire/Phone owners will already have this app on their device.

    Hope that helps. :)

    @jigglybean‌ Thanks for sharing that.

I've been getting quite good downloads for one of my apps, sometimes 500 per day (I think that's good?) but the advertising revenue is pretty poor so thought I should look at in-app purchasing.

The same app is currently only getting about 20 downloads per day on Amazon although I expect you are right about Amazon customers being more inclined to purchase.

I think it's time I tackled IAP anyway and it may inspire my next project. I think if I begin a project with IAP in mind it may trigger some more ideas.

    Thanks again :)

Maybe look at how you have set up your advertising. Are you using chartboost? I don't know if you have seen this video on how to get the best from chartboost?

Thanks for the video, a real Gem!

I did try to use Chartboost recently on one of my apps but couldn't get it to work, I posted on here but no-one responded, I followed a YouTube tutorial but it was different to the one you posted. I had to resort to using Revmob which is pretty dire and a lot of their ads look like viruses (Telling me my phone battery has issues and I must download a fix!)

I will certainly give Chartboost another look.

Thanks again for the info...I'm sure it will make a difference :)
