Yet again iPhone 4G UK price is way way too much

Hey,
I was wondering if any knows why the UK iPhone is £400 more than in the US, it can't cost them that much just to ship them so what is it?
Also I wondered if it would be worth importing a US iPhone 4G for much much cheaper and putting my SIM into it, are there any problems I might encounter? (Apart from US power adapter)
Will the SIM work properly if it's a US iPhone?
Thanks

But still it's ridiculous. Probably tax reasons but £365 is an outrage!
Does anyone know about importing iPhones?
When the 3GS came out you get get it for 199 and 299 USD
However if you didn't want to sign away another 2 years they were 599 and 699. It should also be noted you have to get a more pricy plan too. You can't just get a cheaper plan and use wifi. The cheapest AT&T plan is over 1200 per year before taxes. So you basically and up paying just under 3k when it is all done.
So in short our prices are about the same but with way less availability if you want no contract.
If you import from USA it is locked to AT&T. I don't know if you would have to jailbreak or could update with uk iTunes though.
To me that really doesn't seem to high. A useless Nokia goes for around the same, no?
At least when a new model hits.
