Hey guys, I'm working on a new game and I want to know if I need to make my images larger for the new iPhone 4 because the screen is 326dpi? Won't images look pixelated or something? Do i need to make images for 960x640? Thanks!

    Because iPhone 4 has exactly 4x the pixels... and the pixels are 4x smaller... your standard graphics will make it look exactly the same as the old iPhones.... But because theres also 4 times the pixels you could POTENTIALLY make graphics alot better...... Unfortunately GS doesn't have this feature or universal app bundling... Or the Resolution you'd need to build it in... So the ONLY thing you can do is create your high res graphics..... because we don't even have a format to work in.... So yeah...

    The res is 960x640 though....

    We'll just, unfortunately need to wait for Gendai....

    Good luck!

    iphone 4 will be 960x640 at 72ppi but like the reply above you will have to wait until GS adds this feature.

    It will not be at 72 ppi. I don't know what it is, but it will be much higher pixels per inch.

    *edit* I just looked it up, it will be 326 ppi.

    @design,

    Look up the physical ppi for the current iPhone...163ppi

    That said, someone tell me why we currently have to prepare our images as 72ppi/dpi, and why that would be different for the iPhone 4?

    I'm thinking we can create images to fit 960x640, create actors to fit 480x320 and set the graphics to stretch. Since iPhone 4 for will automatically double the size of all of our scenes/actors, it may be able to take advantage of the higher resolution images...maybe.

    Anyway, my brother is getting a iPhone 4, so i'll test it and share the results.

    Because there's more pixels per inch...

    The new resolution means the images you currently use on your iPhone game would be tiny when viewed on the iPhone 4 (when working with the iPhone 4 resolution). Your images can be sharper and pack in more detail, but the actual dimensions of the screen (in inches) will remain the same.

    That much is obvious...

    iPhone 4 uses the same interpolation logic used in the iPad to double the size of current iPhone games. Current games will not look tiny on an iPhone 4. They will look the same as they do on the previous models, although I think the pixelation may end up being a little accentuated due to the higher res screen.

    I just don't think that programing for either device has to take into account that conventional purpose of the ppi measurement. Your graphics are either 480x320 or 960x640. ppi/dpi is irrelevant except for the fact that GS requires 72 dpi.

    No I know that games made for the 480x320 resolution will look the same on the new screen.

    I am saying that you cannot look at it as though you are just making a game for 960x640 resolution, because you will most likely end up with text looking tiny on the iPhone 4's screen, or your buttons being miniscule, etc. The resolution is much higher, but the screen size is the same. This is why the ppi matters.
