iPhone SDK confusion!?

Hi All, I've been locked out of the world of Apple and Game Salad for over a month now, while my 24 iMac had a case of the dreaded screen flicker/death :[ Still, I'm now sat here using it again, and Apple have pretty much replaced its insides entirely for free - even though I was 8 months out of warranty and didn't have AppleCare! So, pretty good all round - the 'repair' totaled £1200! Basically, no one seems to know what causes the flicker, so they just replaced EVERYTHING!
So, while I've been away, a couple of things have happened - GS got updated to 0.8.7 which I'm sure is going to be great; and Apple updated the SDK to, what? 4? 3.2.what?
This is basically my question..
I am just about to install GSViewer 0.8.7, so I have xCode open, and it's now occuring to me,
A - 'what version of iPhone SDK should I be using right now??'
B - Should I be using 4 already?
C - Is it even out yet?
I'm currently on 3.1.3
D - is that a good thing?
E - Does it even matter?
F - Do I have to keep up with the bleeding edge, or am I allowed to hang back and update when I feel like it, and everybody else says it's safe to?
I suppose I've been winging it for the past few months, but now that I need to 'catch up' I could do with some informed answers from you seasoned vets!
Thanks for listening\caring.

In xcode go ...
Project > Edit project settings > Under Architectures - Active SDK select iPhone version4
You should now be ok
