I-Ads Part Deux...

Can't find the original I-Ads thread, so I started another. Just submitted an app tonight and it asked if I wanted to enable I-Ads, so I said yes... The process seemed to go fine - I'll update once approved.

@chosenonestudios - whats not going to work? Do you have any other inside information? I read the other thread and it had no info whatsoever... I think Photics was giving away free sandwich recipes in the end. So have you tried uploading an app enabling IAds and it didn't work, or what are you basing the information on?
  • chosenonestudioschosenonestudios Member Posts: 1,714
you actually have to enable code in your app...

I.E. in xcode you have to add text...

In GS its unfortunately not possible because we don't have an xcode project to edit... And Gendai has not added functionality.. like say when your publishing theirs not a checkbox that says iAds...

Gendai probably wont add xcode editing for a long time... And they have not added iAd support so we'll have to wait till they do, so must likely your app will get rejected..

If you really deem it necessary, I'll find a site talking about how to enable iAds in xcode apps or something of the sort... But I hope I made myself clear enough :)

Alot of other people believe this is the case also.. Maybe I will just to quell those people down :D
  • Hurricane09Hurricane09 Member Posts: 40
ugh, so should I re-upload then, or will they reject? Had the feeling I shouldn't have checked off that box...
  • chosenonestudioschosenonestudios Member Posts: 1,714
Not exactly sure what will happen... They might just send you an email saying iAds was not enabled or something... Who knows..

Trust me I wish this was the case also :/

tough one to decide on - I'd like to publish as soon as possible (like all of us), especially since this one is World Cup related... if it was something else I might hang on just to see. Gendai - any advice?

Just an update - my app was approved with i-Ads enabled. I'm wondering if this is like Google AdSense where you have to setup the site (in this case app) and then any clicks are referenced to that site/app. So you wouldn't necessarily have to have the i-Ad code in the application, but once you do the clicks would be tracked.

    OH?? your app was accepted?
did u check to see if there was iads?

The moral of this story is read apples documentation (instructions) first.

    i havnt yet understood:
can we use iads at this moment WITH GAMESALAD?
  • chosenonestudioschosenonestudios Member Posts: 1,714
What??? Thats impossible what app is it??? Link Please?

Hmmmm.... Also they might have approved it because iAds isnt live yet....

99% sure when Aids goes live.... There will not be iAds in your app...

I honestly haven't seen any iAd enabled apps yet, is there just a blank bar that says iAds or something??? Does it say that in your app also???

Doubt it, most likely its a misunderstanding, but we havnt seen any evidence from him yet so we'll see...

Not saying I'll have i-Ads, because we don't have the ability to add the line of code we need into the app, but I was just giving an update on the fact that the app was not rejected even though I had selected to have i-Ads enabled when I submitted. I doubt it will even have the bar as I haven't put a placeholder in for that. I can't even check the app right now (at work), but if someone is able to check I can fire over a promo code.

    I'll check right now:)
  • Hurricane09Hurricane09 Member Posts: 40
    Sure, here you go 44EPR3XEF3JJ

On another note, this game was initially rejected because it had 'World Cup' as a keyword. The nice thing is all I had to do was remove the offensive keywords and reply to the email from Apple and they immediately had the app back in review and then approved it. No need to re-upload a binary or go back into the queue.

Just downloaded, "Attack of the Vuvuzela"

See no black bars or anything... But Im not sure what Im looking for exactly... But it looks pretty regular unless its somewhere else I cant see..

On a side note, cool game:) Kinda like whack-a-mole :D
  • Hurricane09Hurricane09 Member Posts: 40
Thanks! It's not my best work, but I put it together in a couple hours to try to cash in on some of the vuvuzela buzz.

I'm don't think it'll show anything with i-Ads since we don't have that capability, but how awesome could it be if we could just put an actor into our scenes that contained the code..(cough, cough)... I just wanted to post the results as we weren't sure if I would be rejected for enabling them, and as it turned out, I wasn't.

As stated in the other iAds thread...
After seeing how ridiculously easy it is to add iAds to an xcode app, there's simply no excuse for GameSalad to be sans iAds by the end of the month.

Unless they're too busy doing stability *cough cough*

Not having the ability to add iAds to an app, could be the thing that gets GameSalad banned as a middleware tool.

The gap in functionality from what is offered natively, and what third party tools decide to implement is exactly the problem that Steve Jobs was talking about. I think GameSalad is a great tool, BUT... we are at GameSalad's mercy in regards to what things they want to implement. And in the case of iAds it directly affects possible revenue.

Please GameSalad gurus, please make this one a priority, before the boat is missed, or you get banned as a tool.

I don't agree, especially about the middleware stuff.

By that reckoning, any app, written natively or not, HAS to have iAds in it.

That's just not true. There are plenty of devs that don't want to go anywhere near iAds.

What I am saying is that any middleware tool will have to make it POSSIBLE to add iAds. If that tool does not make it possible to add iAds, then it runs the risk of being banned as a middleware tool.

I think the biggest change is the shovel ware will be free instead of .99
Plus devs who want to advertise already do.
FOr some reason people are treating iAds like adwords and admob didnt exsist.

They are huge. WHen you use one your add gets a million impressions in like one day
  • firemaplegamesfiremaplegames Member Posts: 3,211
Gendai did say that they are working on it. They actually need to get iOS 4.0 support before they can even implement iAds.

iAds has only been out for a few days, I'm sure they need some time to test it.

How many API's is iOS 4 up to now? Wouldn't that be true for all of them?

    ...didn't think so. ;-)

If you could put Admob into Gamesalad game that would be a great "stop-gap" til we could do iAds. My bet will be on iAds though. For the next year iAds will be paying out more revenue than Admob, etc. Because of the contracts that have been negotiated by Apple.

Also remember iAds is Apple, Admob is Google. It is in Apple's best interest that iAds be the main platform for advertising into the i-echosystem: iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch.

Again tools that make for easy seamless integration of iAds will be a feature that many developers using third party tools will be looking for.

For months people requested a way to put in advertising, and nothing has happened on the the GameSalad front. I saw the post on the GameSalad blog about iOS4. Again I ask can you make iAds(or for that matter ANY advertising) a priority.

As an elite subscriber, I think the GS devs should realize that this is the single most-wanted feature that we've been waiting for.. I've been holding off on releasing a few apps, because I'm waiting for them to update with iAd support. You could say it's the equivalent of holding my breath for it.. :P For the amount of money I paid for the subscription, I don't think it's too much to ask, honestly.
