we used the originals as a template but they changed it around a bit, we aren't done them 100% though they will look more original in the end lol

    Phew ;)

Well, the App Store definitely needs more decent platformers!

Um... both your poll options are for YES. Doesn't really make much of a poll ;)

You can't just edit them a bit and that makes them yours!

Also, i wouldn't have NES like controls, personally I would adapt it for the iphone, use stuff like tilt moving etc.

Hehe. As for the controls... really down to how well it can be implemented. I have done a D-Pad and fire button for my shooter. Keeping it simple, one button only as it IS harder with no physical buttons and fingers can get lost. It can be done though and it's working okay. Although I think I'll swap to a virtual joystick, rather than D-Pad. I disagree about tilt controls etc for a platformer... just not intuitive enough.

I disagree with you disagreeing I'm afraid. I reckon it would be wicked to have tilt controls, leaving only the need for a jump and fire buttons that could easily be placed on the left and right sides of the screen meaning you only need to use your thumbs. I'd personally find this a lot easier (and fun) on the iPhone than having to use a D-Pad. Obviously i see the attraction of a D-Pad as well.

    Maybe both :)

I find tilt controls way to clumsy for this type of game. Gimme a D-Pad any day! Tilt controls are only any good for slow, fluid controls... racing games, flight sims... no good for fast-paced action. It's just not responsive enough and the movements that you have to make are way too big when you could have a simple button press. It's be like trying to play Sonic the Hedgehog with a steering wheel controller. I guess if implemented properly and made responsive enough it could work... I'm probably just too old-school. LOL.

To be honest, if there was an official release of the original Super Mario Bros for iPhone, i don't think I would be complaining about the controls :)

Lol as for the poll I accidentally pressed enter before I could finish it :P also the sprites that are there now are temp we just did them for a quick visualization to give us an idea of what it would look like, the final ones are not done yet. For the controls we made it in a way that you really can't miss the buttons, we made the button actors take up the whole height of the screen and quite wide, we've tested them they seem to work quite well but I guess it would be quite a good idea to also implement some kind of tilt controls... Dual option maybe

Yeah, I found you have to make the buttons (or at least the area that registers) REAL big. Still haven't gotten diagonal movement right yet, either... bit hit and miss. Still, it's a VERY fast paced shooter and very playable with what I have so with a few tweaks (or perhaps a joystick mode - lol) it should be perfect ;)
